I am updating the report and could use one from Packery and Baffin. I would assume the fishing on Packery would include reds, Kings at the end, spanish mack and pompano. Pics would be helpful too!
Thanks and have a great weekend! _________________ Like Corpusfishing.com on Facebook! |

I spent last week offshore almost every day chasing ling, I only went to baffin once, but here's a brief (no photos) report.
9-18-16 - early morning fished shallower rock areas (water depth 1-3 feet on top of rocks) with chicken on a chain gambler shad. light weight, weedless rigged jig heads can help not getting stuck on the rocks. I was picking up a wide size range of trout, from 10" dinks, to a 27" that was released also released 4 more around 23-24. I kept my 5 that were good box fish, around 18-19" and headed over to more of grassy pot hole areas and drifted/power poled around with gulps under a mansfield mauler. I picked up about 8 reds from 20-24" in a couple hours. after wards, I headed back into baffin on some deeper rocks looking for drum. I found a few schools of good smaller keeper size drum, but they were not biting very well. I only had gulps and fishbites, only managed two ~16 inchers. pretty good day. Gotta take some fresh dead shrimp to get them I guess.
side note, I wish gambler would figure out a way to get their flappy tails to stay on better. I must have gone through 3 bags of lures with the tails popping off.

out of packery from 9-11 to 9-22 - for small boat guys like myself, when it's flat and you can get out, I'd take the opportunity and go. Tons of spanish mackeral just out of the jetties, along with schools of oversized reds and jacks. The best part has been the ling. In the last two weeks, we've probably caught a 18-20 from my boat (25 extreme), and a buddie's boat (haynie HO) alot of them have been just undersize, but typically getting a keeper or two every time I go out. Here are a few photos.
photo credit to Steven Weatherford on the action shots. that guy is nuts! he's been going out on his jetski chasing these things for the past couple weeks also.
I caught 6 this day
One of 3 that my son caught this day
