Making an 8 hour drive to corpus tonight and have a few questions for the die hard that have gone out the past few days. Water still murky? What's the water temp at or is the CLU still present? is there prominent bait in the surf? Much thanks to all who can answer.

I went down PINS 2-3 miles yesterday evening 8/23. Water was off color but no where near as bad as I thought it was going to be judging by the cams. Looks even better today.

I didn't really look for bait but nothing really caught my eye. Lots of ladyfish running in the guts.

I caught several ladys or cut bait/fish bites/ rattletrap. Then right after sundown I spotted some fish backs sticking out of the water right at the shore. It was black drum up there all the way feeding on coquina shells and speckled swimming crabs. Was very cool to see and of course I through crab fish bites right in the wash and a nice fat 22-23' drum came and go it.

Another guy said he caught some lower slot reds in first and second gut.

Things are looking up I'd say. Looks like we have some rain headed out way in a couple days though...

I took the dog for a walk yesterday evening SBH. Water is looking much better than it has. I should have left the dog at home and taken the trout rod.

PINS was clear and green today, at least as far down as I went at about 13MM, and it was covered in rain minnows. I haven't seen so many skipjack in my life, all busting up minnows and just about anything else you can throw at them. I swear a bright smile would have landed you a couple of skipjack bites to the face. I couldn't get a lure past the skipjacks and gave up. I saw Nickaway and several others trying to fish under the birds too.

I read this yesterday and watched the shoreline on the way back to the blacktop, and to my surprise I found several small schools doing the same thing again this evening. All I had was lures and no fishbites... but I had a cast net. Whether or not that cast net put a few fillets in the freezer is something I'll never fess up to. Embarassed Thanks for the heads up!

I meant more a pride thing, but from what I've been told cast netting non-game fish in saltwater has to be for bait purposes.

They can be used for shark bait!
