I use whatever I have in the shop. Gun oil, reel oil, wd40, sewing machine oil, 3 in 1 oil, royal purple, after 35 plus years it's oil. However I like my penn reel grease. I might even give that stuff a try as long as it doesn't leave a sticky gummy film.

The penn grease is good stuff for gears.

I've used reel butter and hot sauce from diawa, both are good. Haven't tried the one linked. Any help on the corrosion front is a good thing as long as we remember to take a reel down after it gets dunked. It's surprising how many think the can just rinse a reel that have been dunked. I'm sure I'm preaching to the choir though.

I use fluid film on my side X side for the beach, my hubs on the boat and jackplate. It leaves a thick film which is great for rust prevention but would not be good on rods or reels. It is sticky, messy and stinks.

A really good test of 46 different corrosion protections products below. Article is an excellent read. WD40 specialist came out on top after over 500 hours exposure.

Still doing well on reels - bait casters, spinning and fly - using the same tube of Royal Purple given to me by Capt. Singleterry years ago. Good stuff.
