Well it was definitely a tough trip... not for fishing or for catching, but for bringing what we caught home, I am sure John will elaborate.

The seas were calm, the weather was beautiful, and for the most part every spot we went to was fairly fishable, weather or not the keepers were biting. We had a trouble getting into the keeper AJ this trip. I really had high hopes on some of my better wrecks out East, as good as the bite down south was a week ago. Only 6 of our AJs were keepers, and they were all in the 45-55# range. While we wouldn't have been close to a double limit... We probably would have been 3/4 of the way there with last years size restrictions. I have really been feeling the heat of those extra 4 inches in the past months.

At dark we went B-liner fishing, and while it was steady it wasn't phenomenal. For the spot I chose, it was kinda a weird bite... people were either catching 12 inchers or 4 pounders depending on which part of the boat they were on. Our star fisher(wo)man had her 20 of all freightliners long before anyone else tagged out.

Planned to be tuna fishing right at moonset and guessed it about 20 minutes to early. First drift was of course a waste. On the second one we got some nice blackfin going. There were a few kings and bonita mixed in, and then fairly quickly, the bonita took over. It seemed the nicer BFT were tight to the rig and we were going to be able to put a few together, but then the 9 ft Duskys showed up, and it was pretty much game over for the night. But it was nice to see how well they were trying to fire off for this late in the year.

This will be our last overnighter until Sept. We are planning on running some 24 or 36 hour trips during the bad floater moons to bottom fish and chase shrimpboats during that great time of year, and as soon as we figure out a schedule Ill post it. As usual we will try to book 2-3 floater trips each good moon from late sept to late dec... If there is any trip you want to try to do , call the office at 361-834-8385 and show interest... once they open it on speculation, we can usually get it going. weather permitting, that is how this late season 24 hour happened.
