Is it feasible to spend a week in a nearby motel and surf fish on PINS. Seems most of the info I get involves folks camping out, in tents or campers.
Are there motels close enough to the entrance that one can get up early, drive the beach, fish, and return to the motel for the night. And repeat??

Yes that shouldn't be a problem at all. Keep in mind the nearest hotels are probably around 15 min from the entrance, many more hotel options will be ~30 drive in the 'city'.

Just depends on how much time you want to fish and the comfort level you want. Always trade offs.

Several times a year we go just for a Saturday. Wake up and leave the house (Schertz, NE side of SA) around 4, spend the day 15-20 miles down PINS and leave just before or after dark and head home. Love it! Last year was first time taking the bumper pull RV and stayed on the beach, plan on several more times this year including Memorial day weekend.

Nothing like a hot shower at the end of a long day of surf fishing. Plus a dry and not sandy bed.

we do it quite often in the summer with the kiddos, from just outside san antonio we normally leave 2-3am and leave the sand just before dark. we use a pump up garden sprayer sitting in the sun to soap up before leaving. makes for a ling day but its better than blowing $100-150 just for a bed and shower for a couple hours.

Completely feasible. There are a few hotels on the island and a bunch of condos on the road to Port A for a little more money but full size kitchens, multiple rooms, etc. But be very careful where you leave your gear, even for short periods of time. In these parts, not at all uncommon for that stuff to walk off while you are in a restaurant or something if you leave it in the back of your truck, hitch rack, etc.

I live in town so can't really say much about the hotels, but i do day trip to PINS often, probably more than i camp overnight. Totally doable! Go for it!

October
someone correct me, but isn't a NatlPark pass good for 7 days?
so the many hotels on SPID would be easy access in under 2hrs to the shell banks and past...

If you fish like a bass fisherman you can have great success. Pull up on a spot that has structure and signs of bait or birds. Fish the first gut for 10 mins then long rod the second for 30 mins. if no action move until you find fish.
I would have four rods rigged with:
1# white Mirror-lure or spoon
2# Carolina Rig for fresh dead shrimp, live shrimp, fish bites or croakers
3# Long rod with redfish leader
4# heavy long rod for shark

Cast net is a must
shade umbrella can be set up fast

good luck
