Looking for info on these if anyone uses them. My main use would be for offshore and down on PINS. It would be more of an emergency use or a check in once a day type thing when out.
Do they work in these areas? Any recommendations on a brand or service plan?
Thx |

Yes they work in those locations. The handsets and the per minute charges are EXPENSIVE.
Have you looked at a SPOT? Go talk to the guys at West Marine. They seem to know the products and offer about all of them. |

The problem with a sat phone is the terrible way they do minutes, which are expensive. They last a year then expire and you have to buy minimums which the last time I looked were at about $400.So if you want an all else fails coms that you may use only a couple minutes it is too expensive. _________________ Wish I Were in Baffin |

We have one that we use offshore and down PINS. It is the iridium. It works great but like people say you have to buy minutes every year. We have so many roll over minutes that we actually try to burn through them every now and then. I'll put out baits and get the fire going, crack a beer, then call home and catch up with the family to see how their day went. It used to be a "hey guys all good down here" kinda call then hang up. Our new one has an antenna that you can stick on top of the truck like the old nokia cell phones had. This makes it nice because you can close yourself in the truck out of the wind to talk.
Anyways I hope that helps. |

I dont know if it would work offshore, but I have a cell phone booster I put in my truck. Works awesome on land. Wilson electronics, think they run in the $300-400 range. _________________ "Deep inside, you know the fish isn't the only one that's hooked" |
