We drove out to PINS Sat. morning and drove down to the 10. With all the wind Friday night and Saturday morn the waves were pretty fierce, too rough for me to wade out and cast so we just looked for shells. The beach was beautiful with the high tides and the rain washing away all the tire tracks. We left and went over to Packery South jetty. No one fishing there. Pelicans were working out in the second gut so I walked out there and threw a rattletrap a while but didn't get any hits.
Sunday went back to PINS and fished with cut bait and fishbites. Caught a few small fish. No weed & light winds.
Monday went to PINS & drove down about 7 miles. No weed & light winds, surf is clearing up. Caught about a dozen hardheads on cut bait and about the same amount of whiting on fishbites. Caught 1 pomp as soon as we started so I thought it would be a good day for them, never caught another. About sunset I caught a 26 inch red on a whiting head. Right after the red I reeled in a hardhead and a whiting on my fishbites pole. I got the whiting off first and was giving it a kick toward the surf before a blue heron got it. I wound up kicking the hardhead with my shin. The hardhead stuck in my shin. Went up and dowsed it in iodine. To say it kinda hurt is putting it mildly. Now I have to patch a hole in my waders.
Tomorrow we are headed back to the snowy country but I'll be checking in to see how the fishing is going. |

Ouch make sure it doesn't get infected.
I went out to Pins 12/14 as well. Not much to show for it. But I waded out a good distance to make a long cast as I do and when I was walking back I saw something big about 20 feet in front of me. Two thing popped into my head: shark are stingray. After a few moments I realized it had wings so it big stingray in about 3 foot of water. Scary thing was after it showed near the surface it went under and was impossible to see with the brown water. I didn't wade out again. haha |

Tough few days of fishing. But time on the sand is always time well spent. CAN FEEL YOUR PAIN on that hardhead stick. Hardheads are literally a pain. _________________ "I do hunt and I do fish and I do not apologize to anyone that I hunt and fish." - Norman Schwarzkopf |

Hardheads!
My best friend was fishing the Holly Tracks in the late 90s with his brother. He told me his brother went to the store for beers. It was getting dark and he pulled in a hardhead. He went to grab it a few times but it kept wiggling and after a few seconds he went to grab it again and thought, "It finally stopped wiggling." The bad thing was it wiggled and without him realizing (because it was getting dark) the lateral spine slid on top of his ring finger nail and went an inch and half into his cuticle. He was alone and after a couple of half *ss attempts he Ramboed that hardhead off his finger and ripped it open. When I saw his finger a few days after it looked like a broom handle. _________________ To have a right to do a thing is not at all the same as to be right in doing it. - G.K. Chesterton |

| We made it home. It's 32 degrees outside. I guess the hardhead stuck in the bone. It didn't flop down and I had to pull it out. It's not sore today just a little scab. Still worries me about the bone though. When I got the cut I had my wife stir the iodine in with the eye end of a needle. Kweber, now when you drive up here at night you see red lights blinking everywhere from all the wind turbines. |
