while at work on a rock train at the black rock mines west of Uvalde, I had time to observe the big blood moon...
it's dark out there, so no city lights to interfere.. the clouds gave way occassionaly and we had a great view of the complete lunar eclipise...
now home at 0430hrs, it's big and bright again...
hope some of yall got to see it...
full eclipse was 2147 hrs 9-27
where I am at nights, the stars and Milky Way really put on a show...

In town it was difficult to get clean shots because of all the light, but the other difficulty I had was trying to capture it in the shortest exposure possible. My 400mm lens is nice but even a four second exposure ends up streaking the details, and the red moon was not very bright to help me get quick exposure times! It was a cool show for sure.

I had to view it thru nearly 59yr old 1x occular lenses corrected by poly-carbonate...

I feel your pain! I got my first pair of "progressive" lenses, and they REALLY make it difficult to see when an object is focused properly. I ended up shooting a bunch of shots and slightly changing the focus each time until I got it dialed in.

I can "see" that getting older has a downside. Laughing

About 100 years ago I dabbled a bit with low light print film photography and found out through trial error a few things about taking pictures of a full moon. The first thing I learned was with a 50 mm lens it prints very small even though it looks huge in the sky. The second thing I learned is that it's bright and moves, something I found out when I shoved my Pentax up against a 30x spotting scope mounted on a 2x4 and started taking timed exposures. Fortunately I had access to a dark room, so the cost wasn't too much, but it still cost for the paper and film. I eventually dialed it in to where you could see the craters. I can't remember the exposure values but around 1 second at f5.6 at 100 ISO seems to stick for some reason. But it's been awhile.
