folks,
if i were to take a job in Rockport, where would you all suggest moving too? i would be looking for a relatively crime free area with good schools and a price range of say $150K, 4 bedrooms (at least 3) and 2 full baths. Rockport listings seem a bit expense at a quick glance but there are many areas close to it. thanks in advance. in the mean time i will do more searching. i never been north of Port A and Aransas Pass area so your input will be appreciated. and if you need a tow down on PINS and i am passing you by i will pull you out no prolbem |

| Rockport is nice but it is getting pricey. I am not familiar with a lot of the neighborhoods over there, but I am sure someone who lives out there can post up with some info maybe Tombo or Anzuelo can help. |

| Rockport is becoming a full blown retirement community and home prices have gone up as a result. I would check around Aransas Pass. The cost of real estate hasn't inflated like Rockport yet. It may be harder to find what you want there. But, if I remember correctly, Hogan has a development in the AP/Ingleside area where you should be able to find what your are looking for... |

I live in Ingleside (in the Oak Park area).
There are quite a few houses on the market (and soon there will be more), because of the closing of the naval base.
There are also new houses being built in the area around Ingleside and Aransas Pass. You can probably find what you want in this area, if Rockport is too high.
I drive 22 miles to work in Corpus Christi, but enjoy living in a small town. |

When I was getting out of the Army I spent several months researching on line this whole area. After I got here I picked Portland for several reasons. First it was the cleanest city or area I saw between Rockport and Mathis. Next it is just across the bay from Corpus, everything you need. Third, most of the city or neighborhoods were still in really good shape and last is the city has money. _________________ Mastergunner, supporter of hardheads for state fish of Texas |

I spent many months searching the Rockport area, before I found the "right" home. Prices are higher, but I personally love the area, and was willing to pay for it. Look in the Copano Cove area, Lamar and Holiday Beach areas. These are out of the city limits, so taxes are a little less, plus it is quieter. Watch the Rockport Pilot classifieds. You can find homes for sale by owner at better prices, or drive the neighborhoods for signs. Thats how I found my place. I bought a completely remodeled 5 bedroom, canal front home, for well under 200K. Good luck. Don _________________ "Growing Older, But Not Up!!" |

thanks guys
so far this has helped tremendously
i am going to post for the job tomorrow and see what happens. it is a job within the company i currently work for so chances are good i can get it unless they already have someone in mind.
i am just so land sick it aint funny anymore. i spent most of my life (35 years) within 6 miles of the ocean (i am a yankee and please forgive me ) and San Antonio (7 years now) aint far but those 150 miles or so, lodging, and eat outs, do add to the cost big time and limit the amount of times i can hit the surf and bays. especially with the wife and kids whom love it. on my own i can get up at oh-dark-thirty and be on the fish at sun up and fish till sunset and back home by 10 pm all in one day but that is exausting.
i just love it down there in all your neck of the woods and it is simply paradise or what is left of it in this country. i sure hope we can keep it from being over run by corporate greed and facist. great job on saving that beach front last year from becoming "no vehical access" by the packery channel guys!
i just long for the simple life as i guess so many do. i don't need much but the ocean and fishing. and the coastal bend of Texas is one of the finest all in my opinion. simply wonderfull down there. been from Port A to Mansfield jetties and i feel i have barely explored the area. bought Ray's book which is wonderfull by the way for what it is worth and alot if you ask me.
anywho, i been drinking and my typing is probally a nightmare along with my grammer and logic but i just love your part of the state and respect it so much i pick up litter all the time that aint mine and lots of it (bags) and let most of my fish go for another day when i have my fill untill next visit.
hope you all dont mind a yankee on your turff but i am a vet of the irag conflict (8 years of service and E5) for all you and family that served and serve today.
God bless you all...................... |

You can live in Annaville part of Corpus Christi on the NW side, and the drive is all of 30 mintues or so from there if you go over the bridge and drive down the North side of the river banks. There are lots of houses in your price range there too.
The brand new subdivision behind my Mom around the new elementary school are really nice and running 90 to 120k, right off McKenzie and Leopard. Lots of lots left too, so you could customize your own home, and Tuloso is still a good school. _________________ GOBZA!!!

Lamar has a new subdivision going in, Holiday Beach also has some nice homes, once you get off the highway. Corpus is about 40 miles from Rockport, Portland is about 15 miles. You can also check out homes off FM188 ( i think) that runs from Sinton to Rockport, alot those have some acreage too. I would stay away from Taft, as a coworker lives there...with no positive experiences. Gregory the same.
If i were in you shoes Id look for some place in Rockport, its an awsome community. I used to work there, lots of friendly people. Take your time and look, deals can be had. I have friends there in homes for less than your $$ and in nice neighborhoods. If it was not so far from my work(Corpus), I'd move there.

That is call Overland Meadows. Its still a long drive from Rockport though. There are some nice houses going up in the Odem area as well, with lower taxes than ours in good ol Nueces County. _________________ http://www.thirdcoastoutdoors.com

| I would also recommend you look into Portland. I moved here 3 years ago after doing a lot of looking around. Great place to live and the prices are doable on 4 bdr/2bath/2300sqft homes. low crime, clean, close to all the fishing from rockport to ULM. |

Ain't that the truth and that is just in the last two years that I have been keeping close track of it (retiring in 3 years). Prices are considerably better in Corpus.
