What is more important to you guys when it comes to fishing Barometric Pressure, Tides, Moon Phase or wind direction? I know everyone has their preference and and that to most it is about having a day off and heading out whether they are biting or not I was just wondering. _________________ The Hardhead Whisperer |

Mine would be Tide and wind speed. considering I do my fish in the Surf lately. Too high of a surf, I ain't getting stuck!
Low-surf but incoming, EXCELLENT if Rising slowly for me.
Low Surf but outgoing, Still good
My wind preference? Mid to low wind speed. I'm a classy fisherman gotta be a pretty day hahahahaha |

| You nailed it. When ever you can go. Really tricky question. Lots of variables. Depends on whether your fishing bays, surf, or offshore. Basically I like a moving tide and will make due with the other factors |

OH ONE MORE THING!
Don't fish piers in the Backyard if the current is flowing upwards.
Last weekend, Perfect conditions, flow of water= Upstream???
It was a weird one alright. plenty of baitfish and shrimp in the water I mean TONS. but no one was catching jack at Marker 37.
I actually need help on that one too. The way the water in the backyard flows. It breaks my brain. |

Yeah it is interesting I've had luck when it was "suppose" to be bad day and have been skunked on a perfect day...go figure. There are strategies of when and when not, it's just not many people like to share. _________________ The Hardhead Whisperer |

Barometer I have done my best on 29.9 or lower. Right now it's steady at 29.99. As far as wind man this is the coastal bend. I hate wind over 15mph but sometimes it can be your friend. As far as tide, a moving is good but when I get up at 4am I'm going regardless because where I'm fishing I don't notice the movement anyway. _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED. |

I find tidal movement is important out at the surf and not so much in the Laguna.
After getting skunked today I checked the pressure when I get back and it was 30.02. Goes along with what Stan said. |

| Daylight on the bay. Slack tide for nearshore. Incoming or high tide on the beach. Not that I'm successful at it. It's just my preference. |

Years ago Roy Swann, the late outdoors writer for the Caller-Times, wrote a very long article on this subject. He discussed all the possibilities of tides, barometric pressure, moon phases, wind, temperature, seasons, etc. and his very last sentence was "So after all this careful research I have come to the conclusion that the best time to go fishing is whenever you can get away". Hard to argue with that astute reasoning. _________________ Big Ed

In 100% agreement with going when the time allows, but SUCCESSFUL fishing of any kind under high pressure is tough, period! The guys at In Fisherman refer to these conditions as a very small or close bite window, as in, if the offering passes inches ( or less ) in front of the fish, they MAY hit out of the sheer instinct of not letting something that damn easy slip by!!!! _________________ Dave

| I swear the best days catching that I've ever had have been the days when I didn't know what the tide was, what phase the moon was, or what species of fish was supposed to be where. |
