Humming birds are showing up ahead of this front. Yesterday I had 3 today there are a dozen. 1/2 cup of pure cane sugar to 2 cups of clean filtered water. or boiled water, no added dyes or food coloring needed. Keep the feeders clean. Enjoy. _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED. |

| I think I would like to try this. What type of feeders do you use? Is there a homemade alternative? |

A Texas company in Poteet makes a good one--called Best- 1 Hummingbird Feeder. Do not have their phone number. Thjey do not sell direct but can tell you who stocks thier feeders. _________________ A little salt water in your veins is good for you! |

Just pick one up at the homedepot or Heb. If you start it you have to keep doing it every year as they will return on their migration. Don't get discouraged sometimes it takes a few days to get noticed. Clean your feeder every 4-5 days dont let the solution go bad it can make the little guys sick or kill them. _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED. |

My one feeder has definitely made the humming bird hot spot map this year. Refilling twice a day. It looks like a bee hive right now. _________________ Adrift on the Mother Lagoon |

correct, great feeders....they stock them at the HEB in God's Country (Flour Bluff) in the pet food section for like $6 bucks.....I'm betting most HEB's carry them.....the hummingbird food is right next to the feeders (like $3)....
they will find it in minutes if you put it up at this time of year....try to hang your feeder in the shade and not have obstructions around it....

They are bulking up here in Austin. After the coldfront comes through on Sat that should send tons of em south. Wallmart sells feeders for $4.

They did this last year. And when they left. They all went. Two weeks later it got cold and stayed that way.
Stupid phone double posted for me. _________________ Adrift on the Mother Lagoon |

We've had them for several weeks in Kerrville area. Wife plants lots of tubular flowers that attract them. They love the blooming honeysuckle. _________________ Gary J

Here's an attempt at a homemade feeder. Used a small water bottle, straw, super glue and a guitar string. Trying a multi - straw one next. May not work but kinda fun doing it with my son.[img] [/img] |

| Well the three straw feeder was a disappointment due to simple physics. Air sucked through one of the straws which in turn allowed the other two to drain. Looked good on paper. So, we made another single. Hope the little guys show. Hmmm... it's almost time for a bit of flor de cana. Mmmm. |

Grasscutter you are right about the flor!! Mm mmm good. With just a splash of cherry coke. I didn't think anyone drinks much of that up this way. _________________ "Nothing makes a fish bigger than almost being caught." |
