|
|
Took my lady out this weekend to get in on some of the big trout action we have been having. She did not hesitate to snag a monster and blow right past the 30 inch mark! This Baffin big girl was 31" and right at 9lbs. I was wading about 100 yards away when she hooked the fish. We were in a bit of mud so I could not get back to her soon enough. She hooked, fought, and landed the fish completely on her own, as she always does. This girl can fish! This is her first trout over 30 and she certainly is getting it mounted. She was shaking with excitement, and I couldn't be more proud of her. We have definitely had some awesome, big trout action this summer! Can't wait till they put on some winter weight!

She was throwing a Gulp shrimp under a Legend popping cork.
A 29" was also caught and released. It fell for a 4 inch paddle tail.

I'm sure he has lots of tips, but since he fishes for a living, you'll probably have to pay for them _________________ "Ya'll must eat a lot of fish" |

Great fish!
We have caught a few trout in Baffin with this same lack of spots on them.
I was once told that was considered a tide runner trout. Anyone have any info/ knowledge on this to share?

Wow what an awesome catch! My first thirty inch trout and first buck with a bow are two of my greatest outdoor memories. _________________ Take a kid fishing, best investment for them and our future of fishing. |

Baffin can be challenging to wade or kayak simply due to lack of access. A large portion of its shores are owned by the King and Kennedy ranches, therefore restricting access. That said, some excellent fishing does take place in spots like Drum Point, Site 55, or Neubauer Point. With a kayak, you could paddle across, from the Kaufer Hubert Park and public boat ramp, to the King Ranch shoreline. That finger of Baffin is known as the Cayo del Grullo. The water clarity at the back of Baffin isn't always the best, but we have caught many fish on both top waters and soft plastics in there so you could give it a shot! As always, live bait works as well as cut bait or Fish Bites.

Ha ha, I don't mind sharing some info to help guys get on fish. Someone shared info with me when I got started. Paying any guide for a trip, be it fishing, hunting, dolphin watching, etc. just covers all of the very expensive overhead like fuel, oil, feed, or fees to landowners. Not to mention there are a lot of hard working fellas that are trying to pay bills like everyone else.
This fish was actually caught towards the mouth of Baffin near a spoil island.
