this weekend was the first time in 2 yrs that we finally got a chance to come for a visit. we got in to bob hall pier about 6 pm and it was beautiful there. compared to galveston it was heaven. i have reports on here about the lights but didnt give it much thought as i had read where the county said they had made some improvements there last yr. well when it got dark most of the pole lights were not lit or were too dim to make fishing good. the only new lights i saw were some little rinky dink ones they put on the railing. we left early stayed the night nearby and then returned home early. very disappointed. i dont think we will come back for an over night trip until they do more improvements. i have been coming to this area since i was a child and i will still come back but i really hope they make it better. i am calling the parks people in corpus to let them know how i feel about the pier.
we didnt catch nothing but hardheads but people had told that earlier in the day they had a lot of kings caught. we will be back maybe in sept but will only fish during the daytime

E-mail the mayor.....I have before. It didn't result in anything but atleast I e-mailed her. Infact don't do it it's a waste of time they will just pass your complaints down the river. Rolling Eyes

Bob Hall (and Horace Caldwell) are run by the COUNTY, not the City.....calling city hall would be a waste of time....

The County is aware the lights need repair.....the contractor they hired to do the new lights under the pier shining into the water used the overhead light pole as a ground, and when you touched the aluminum light poles, you got shocked....they just did this this past week.....they had to disconnect some of the lights to keep people from getting shocked....the contractor has been called and they will be fixed this week.....you just caught them at a bad time.....

and now you know....

thanks for all the info.in years past the lights were never as bad as this past weekend. yes i still intend to call the county and let them know how i feel. since i live out of the area by 4 hours and since a lot of people come to corpus from the houston area and other areas im sure that they will listen to me. i am already planning our next trip hopefully sometime in sept. everyone on this site has always been very helpful.

Last time i went out there this summer there was seaweed piled up all over the cement and dead sting rays just laying around. It stunk and there were people asleep on the pier. I left in 10 minutes.

Your best option at this point is to email parks director - a Mr. Scott Cross at
scott.cross@co.nueces.tx.us

If that does not work, email the commissioner of precinct 4 which I believe is Chesney. I am still looking for an email on him.

If enough people will notify the director, there will be results.

Remember to be courteous but stern with your concerns.

thanks gib. i will certainly do the emails too. i love coming down there. so nice to relax there than in galveston. galveston has gotten so money hungry that they have forgotten how to make people feel at ease. when i come to corpus it is not fast paced so you actually have time to relax.plus the water is nice in corpus.i would like to move to corpus but right now its not an option

That doesn't sound right, the poles SHOULD be grounded, and if they were grounded they would prevent shock. Sounds like they did not ground the poles properly if people are getting shocked by the poles.

Becky or whomever,

I was under impression that McComb was beat out in last election for precinct 4.

You want laid back, less pressure pier fishing in an area less crowded and messy than Corpus?
Try Quintana Beach Park/Pier/Jetty near Freeport or head on down to Sargent, both only an hour or so from Houston.
Lots of places to stay including campgrounds, cabins and motels. Lots of catching as well although the weed is a problem certain times of the year as it is up and down most of the Texas Coast.

Yes, but he doesn't leave office until January.
