Saturday surf was too rough for a beach launch, so I employed the other option. A friend and I left the public launch early and headed out through the jetties at Port Aransas. Slowride and clients were trolling around, and I saw them catch a fish but for us fishing at the end of the rocks was slow (bad pun), so we paddled out to the ships staged offshore. On the way out I located the fish, and they were good ones. It was a nice trip until we got back to the jetty. The tide was running out at a good clip, and it was a hard 2.5 hour paddle to get from the jetties to the protected marina waters. It was only a ten mile day but what a workout!

What kind of fishing reel, the spinning one, were you using on those kings? It must be a really good reel to take that punishment over and over.

It is a very tough reel that puts up with all the abuse I can dish out. It's a Fin Nor Offshore 5500 and holds more line than I will need. The drag is the best feature. Huge and able to smoothly operate at heavy settings if required.

...and I love the song it sings when a big fish is ripping line out!

Prof, I have two questions for you.

What brand gloves are you wearing and what kind of setup do you have around your neck/face. Looks good. I need something to keep that sun off me. Great video.

I'm pretty high tech, so try to keep up... Lol.

The gloves are from the home section of HEB. It's not that they are low cost, but I've tried many gloves and these work best for me. I think in part it is because the one size sold fits my hands perfectly. Made of bamboo, they're about $4 per pair and last four or five trips per pair.

The face cover came from Wal-Mart'sfishing department for $10. Made of coolmax, it works exactly like the more expensive options.
