Every time I go fishing it takes a little work packing and cleaning because I drive a 2 wheel car. I've gone out about 5 times since school let up for summer but didn't catch much of anything. I check this forum every night before bed and love learning from the more experienced crowd. However recently I haven't seen anyone posting that there's many fish being caught except for sharks. I never think fishing is a waste of time but I also have other activities I could do with my daughter when I'm not looking for fish. Is it just a slow time for everyone right now, or are the ones catching fish (without a boat of course), aren't posting. I don't mind wading but there are many Sting Rays out right now and having fished the South Pack Jetty last week, I lost about eight litters to the weed. That cost me a buck or two to replace the litters, hooks and weights. The water in Port Aransas looks so much better than here in Corpus but even then the reports I've seen from the Jetty have been blah. They all basically say the same: Nice water but no fish. I have learned that the tides in Corpus are much different than in Port Aransas.
I know my main question is asking whether anyone is catching anything anywhere right now but I also have a secondary question. My fish predictor app shows me that the best fishing is during low tide mainly. Is this true because wouldn't hide tide be the time the fish come into the bays to feed?
Lastly where is the best place (A generic answer of course) to fish during low tide vs. high tide?
Thanks for your time

| I fished Saturday night (6/14/14) at Bob Hall Pier and did well. I got there about 10 PM and fished till midnight up front in the shallows with live shrimp on bottom and caught 3 Black Drum up to 24" and one 25" Redfish. There was quite a few other Drum caught. A friend of mine did good on Speckled Trout and a few Reds off of Red Dot Pier fishing late with lures and live shrimp Thursday and Friday night. I don't pay much attention to tides as I've done good on both incoming and outgoing. |

On the tides: the direction matters way less than having tidal flow, slack tides usually mean dead fishing. Having said that, fish often reposition themselves relative to structure and cover to make the most out of feeding opportunities. On BHP at least, the fishing is very often hot on the upwind/upcurrent side while being totally dead on the other, especially when the big surf trout are running. Of course, wind driven current and tides are totally different water flows, but I hope you get my "drift"! _________________ Dave

Roy's Bait and Tackle I heard will be holding classes on different fishing techniques. Personally
Wading is way to go. Get some ray guards and good polarized glasses and get in. _________________ Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience. |

Or a kayak! Far less expensive! After some experience, go offshore on it on a calm day with some buddies and catch some real fish! Good luck man! |

I agree on the kayak if a boat is not financially reasonable. It's amazing how many fish you can catch by simply getting away from crowds and a short paddle can give you a more favorable position on changing wind directions. _________________ But you ain't got no legs Lt. Dan, I know that |

Not sure what fishing app you use, but this is the site I use... http://www.tides4fishing.com/us/texas/port-aransas
Mainly as a REFERENCE for tidal movement rather it be low or high tide...
But MOSTLY for the Solunar Chart for FISH ACTIVITY
Then again, the only way to catch fish...
Is to have your line in the water |
