For those of you who like me have grown attached to Mahi girl, I have bad news...
While I was preparing to relocate her into the transport container for the move to the Texas State Aquarium, she realized something was happening and she went crazy. She ran full speed into the gravel and was plowing headfirst to get away. I tried putting her upright, but she just went right back to heading into the gravel. She stiffened up and stopped swimming. She was still breathing, so for twenty minutes I gently pushed her back and forth in the tank, hoping that she would calm down and recover. Unfortunately I think she had a heart attack or just couldn't recover from the fright of what was coming. One minute she was completely fine, and five seconds later it was a disaster. The aquarist from Tx State Aquarium suggested I just let her lay for a few minutes to see if she would recover. Some species just need to be left alone and they can come back. Not her. My baby is gone now and I feel terrible.
For those of you who have shared in the journey, thanks for your support and I'm sorry that it ended this way. I knew a move would be stressful but I didn't think it would be this bad... at her rate of growth she couldn't stay where she was. I learned a lot from this colorful little fish, and I think many others did as well.
I'm sorry girl, you will be missed. |

Rough news Professor but some things happen that way. I guess that is why the folks at the Aquarium were being so meticulous about protecting her from possible jumping and head banging in what would have been her new home. We all enjoyed the ride. A shame it had to end this way. _________________ Like Corpusfishing.com on Facebook! |

Thanks Tyler. Sometimes it doesn't go the way we want.
I enjoyed this little fish more than I thought would be possible, and I'm sure it won't be long before I catch some more fish to enjoy. I think I'll leave the tank quiet for a few days before I get back to it... |

Sorry to hear little Mahi Girl didn't make it...You know you gave her a great start and she didn't have to be watchful of being eaten herself all the while she was in the safety of your tank. The end must have been very traumatic...the way she went, I mean.
Again, sorry.....
Just brought my husband back from the Hospital today...he had a heart attack this past Sunday and the doctors put a stint in his artery. _________________ FishLady
