450 snapper really isn't anything. It's the ones that don't get caught with 4,450lbs of snapper and it probably happens more than you think. Good thing they got caught.

I would think the Feds are killing way more snapper by dismantling old oil platforms. Still glad they were caught.

What are the odds they will pay the per/fines?

"The crew was turned over to Customs and Border Protection agents."

So they'll be sent back to Mexico and there will be no punishment.

YOU GOT IT BUDDY!!!

thousands of snapper floating after the explosions take place... first hand knowledge. Disgracefull to say the least. Knee-jerk reaction for the Obama administration!

And what would the punishment be if we were caught fishing in their waters? Expensive I think....

not sure how expensive it would be, but no doubt jail time with no clear release date would be in order

Back in my younger years when I worked on a commercial snapper boat we would often see the federales in ther boat when we got close to Mexican waters. They would be checking us out. We were also hook and line fishermen. 2 reels one port one starboard 50 hooks on each. We would spend 3-4 days out there and gross about 4000 lbs per trip. It paid the bills, kept food on the table, and transportation in the driveway. It was very hard work from sun up to sun down, no matter how rough the Gulf got. Thank God I didn't make a living out of it. I'd probably be dead by now. I'm sure those guys aren't doing it for the sport of it.
