At first I thought it was injured. Snapped a pic from about 300 yds & got out of the jeep. Took 2 steps & the wings folded back into place. It was basking in the sunrise. I named it Kym after my wife. They both need to go to the dermatologist.

Looks like a pterodactyl or something crazy. Had one freak out on me one morning. I kayaked out to my duck blind and the big guy decided it was his home over the night. Scared the crap out of me when I stepped inside and it started going nuts. Haha. Cool birds though. _________________ It's not the destination, the journey is everything. |

| They are putting out their "solar panels" to warm up. Was this early in the morning? Common behavior actually. |

Right; birds do this all of the time to warm themselves, and some do it to dry off. _________________ Ray |

I'd go with drying out. Dark colors absorb more heat than lighter, and the top of their wings and back are darker than their underparts. Conversely, when they chase fish in shallow water it's their underparts that get wet. _________________ Dave

| I know buzzards do it to start the oils flowing so they can fly. In ever seen a heron do that. I've seen chickens do it to cool off on hot sunny days. |
