I'm sure you can fry Dog poo poo and make it taste halfway decent!

Maybe if you're from Tuscaloosa.

On the topic of nasty eating fish. I've had Lumpia made with Texas Bonita and it was quite good. Surprised me to learn what it was.

On what Bama was saying, I wouldn't be surprised if someone cooked a Jackfish and made it tasty somehow either, but I'd surely fail miserably with my subpar cooking skills.

I tried cooking it once just because someone said that they are no good and not worth the effort. I fried, grilled, and smoked some. That guy was right they are no good and not worth the effort. However different cultures like different things, I'm pretty much not a gut eater, nor do I eat bugs, or rotten eggs. Very Happy

Luke, you think fishing THERE is tough, try 10-20 mph NE winds and bluebird skies for 10 days in a row with a one day break for a northern along with "Florida Frog Choker" rains............. not to be confused with "Texas Toad Stranglers" or "Tennessee Turd Floaters", but I digress!

By the way, check your PM inbox. Wink

What they call "sea mullet" in Florida and the Carolinas is most of the time whiting. I bet there are a few people that may actually be eating "bait" mullet but not many.

And you would be wrong. Mullet is served in many fish houses along the Florida gulf. Many of the local fundraisers are mullet fries.
Don't knock it till you try it. That being said the only place I'll eat it is in Florida. Clean sand and water equals clean mullet.

Yep. Clean water mullet isn't bad. And I've heard it called Liza before in other countries, as the genus name for several species of mullet is Liza.

I have two Florida fish cookbooks - one only has mullet recipes in it.

I'd make a bet that Skippies could be pickled like herring and the bones would dissolve. When I was stationed in Keflavik, Iceland we could get 25 varieties of pickled herring at the grocery stores in Keflavik. Think about that - in a land where we could get fresh Cod, Haddock and Halibut fillets, still twitching off the boat for about $3.00 a KILO (2.2 lbs for the metric system challenged) they still eat Herring as a delicacy. You couldn't get an Icelandic to eat a flounder - they consider it trash fish.
