NOAA just released the 2014 Rec Season, and it will run a grand total of 9 days. Shocked

After the recent court case, an emergency rule was requested -

The Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council's decision to request an emergency rule was made following the decision of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia in Guindon v. Pritzker, (Mar. 26, 2014). After recalculating the season length based on the annual catch target and including the 2013 Marine Recreational Information Program data, NOAA Fisheries is setting a 9-day red snapper fishing season.

surprised there was a federal season at all. Figured all of the gulf's recreational quota would be used by states with year-round state seasons like us.

I figured we would lose all of it and have them say we owe them a week for next season too after the other states decided to take State fish.

someone needs a judo chop to the throat.

hopefully it's something simple, like there are secret photos of roy crabtree banging a goat and he's being blackmailed. That would make more sense than a scientific basis for a 9 day snapper season.

let's just all pray there are enough endangered snapper after that extended 9 day season so the commercial guys can keep catching.
