Next weekend I'm headed to Austin to boil 50lbs of the bugs along with 10 pounds of shrimp if I can find some nice fresh ones by Friday. My daughter ordered the crawdads for $ 2.25 a lb up there. We are paying almost 5 here in Corpus. That's quite a difference in price. She says they are cheaper when ordered ahead of time. Anyway I'm looking foward to my son-in-laws Birthday party on Saturday.

They are 2.49 at HEB in N.B as well. All other places in town are 2.99 p.lb.

Just call and Austin HEB and order them. I do it here in Kerrville every year.

So, do you attribute the price differential to "supply and demand", or "that's HEB doing their thing"?

A decent price for here, but it's a far cry from the end-of-season runs I remember when I lived in Baton Rouge. Come May, you could find live crawfish for 75 cents a pound (went to 50 cents if you felt like driving down to Pierre Part), and boiled for $1.50 a lb!! Shocked

I love it when H.E.B. does 'their thing'!! The prices here are higher than in Port Isabel where I spent the winter months. But all the same, I just love their sales and when we go out of Texas, we really get "hit" with the price difference at the other supermarkets.

First time I ever ate them I was a.college freshman in Santa Fe and my roommate was from New Orleans. Went there for Easter and we went to a park on a bayou. His family made 2 trashcans full and another 2 cans filled with Dixie beer. Good time.

PJ's in Rockport has had them as low as $2.85. Buddy of mine went to HEB in the bluff and said they look like normal "un-graded" or "field run" bugs for $4.99 a pound.

Easter boils are big price factor. Left port A after Easter and ended in Baton Rouge next weekend. High price & small was the common complaint. One week later we were blessed with big mud bugs & lowered price. Plus my brother in law boiled them to perfection.

The higher price ones at HEB are their jumbos. The smaller ones are like 2.49 a pound or so. You have to ask for the non-jumbos at the seafood counter.
