While driving in from portland, Noticed the nueces bay and sunset lakes were really high, water almost up to the road around the Hotel ?
What is driving it, Offshore system ? Just wondering what is causing it.
thanks

We have a little bit of a special situation here. We have a tidal fluctuation that is low, when compared to other places around the world, plus the bays here only have a couple of inlets. So, in reality, the most important factor for our tides is the wind. But, when you add a strong wind with a higher tide out in the Gulf, you end up with higher tides in the bays as the water in the bays is not able to leave during low tide and then more water comes in the passes during high tide. If you want a prime example of this in smaller scale just go look at Oso Bay, a strong northern wind will cause a very high tide in there whereas a strong southern wind will cause a very low tide. Kind of the same thing happening in our bays, but not as pronounced.
