I was heading down for the Rockport Nautical Market this weekend but after seeing the Friday forecast I decided to clear my schedule and drive down a day early.

Arrived in Port A around 1 PM to calm conditions and decent clarity with minimal weed.

As soon as I stepped out of my truck I saw a tarpon roll deep in the channel. There surprisingly were not many people on the jetty, except for by buddy Alex on the end looking for tarpon and jacks.

Got to the end and the pontoon army was out in full force.

It was dead for about an hour, and then the jacks started rounding up menhaden along the rocks... of course every time I put my camera down.
Had a few follows but no commits, until one feisty jack on the smaller side finally decided to play.

Coming to hand.

Boom. #JettyTuna.

Alex later hooked up on a tarpon for a second.

Went and grabbed some good cheap grub at Cancuns and came back to the end around 11 PM to try for tarpon again. Hooked up as soon as my swimbait hit the water, fish splashed around on the surface, and ran like hell. I'm already shouting tarpon and getting overly excited. Fish comes to hand and, well, it was this.

Still waiting on my first tarpon of the season, but it was good to sneak a few good fish in before working the show.

Brandon

Awesome! TFTR... Glad to hear the weed (hope I don't jinx it!) seems to be clearing away. Did you get to see how big those tarpons were?
