So I'm out at a jetty this morning trying to locate some bait. I spot a small group of mullet and I think I'm in business.. I toss out the net and feel like I just snagged on a rock. I pull the rope back and see a giant silver mirror thrashing back. I quickly pull it on the rocks and see it a 4' Tarpon. After he sufficiently shredded my cast net I gently remove him and place him back in the water and he swims away. So now I have a broken net, no live bait and a story to tell.

Mustang Island... North Jetty... after I got myself composed I noticed several of them cruising right up to the rocks. I've never actually caught one and today doesn't count.

no pic... left my phone in the truck and didn't want to harm the fish by keeping it out any longer than necessary. My buddy was standing right there speechless I should have made him snap a pic

You would have had some explaining to do to the Game Warden if he had been hanging around. Did that once in a shallow lagoon behind Mustang Island and netted a 22" red! Was told that I would have had some explaining to do also, but lucky for both of us? Smile

I was down the jetty from you, I thought it was a monster bull red at first.

I will trade a shredded net for a story like that any day. Although I would have hunted someone down with a camera or cell phone camera. Oh well, great story. Very Happy

It's your lucky day - quick go buy some lotto tix!

I'd think the net hitting the water would have run any large fish away. That throw was one in a million. Great story.
