It went well for me and my girl, came home with a couple sheepshead and a 24 inch Spanish. Caught a few more Spanish mackerel but not quite the size I wanted so I let them go. Some dude out there caught a really nice Jack Crevalle, and some other fish landed included a Bull Red, and some guys had a boat load of Spanish as well.

It wasn't as packed as I thought it would be, it wasn't hard to find a good spot to fish. The majority of the Spanish were caught towards the very edge (which was kind of packed) and a few random Spanish throughout 1/2 the way down the channel side of the jetties. Water looked pretty good, not nowhere near murky, more of that green color with a few feet of visibility.

The good, or maybe GREAT news is that seaweed was hardly an issue. Smile

Didn't check out Packery but if you wanna go out to pack, it'll probably be a better idea to take the 15 and go to Port A.

We were out there till dark and loaded up on smacks and caught and released a 25inch speck

How do you guys fish for smacks there at the jetty, whats the set up? I usually am fishing bottom and targeting redfish/black drum.. Whats the limit also?

you can also use spoons or gotcha plugs. Medium-light spinning setup, cast and retrieve pretty quick. I like to use a heavier spoon like one of the cotton cordell jigging spoons. I will sometimes jig them up and down and get more strikes. short black leader will help if you keep getting get bit off but I usually go without.

I do what Itorna1 does... I use 40 lb fluoro leader (make sure you have a swivel on it) and launch at least a 1 oz spoon, it's great fun. Gotcha plugs work great also but tend to snag on the rocks or moss that grows on them. I recently started switching the treble's on my spoons to regular j hooks and haven't lost a spoon since. Kinda sucks when skip jacks are around but they are fun to hook up with also.
