If everyone would, ALWAYS, take out more then they came in with, there would not be a problem.
Unfortunately that is not the case. That means we constantly need these kind of events.

Just cleaned the Oso by the Univ. Sat. with Teamoso. It is sad that fisherpersons are not more eco-friendly.

Although I applaud the effort of removing more trash than you create, it bothers me to react to the problem this way. Don't get me wrong, It just bothers me alot to know that there are so many people that don't care enough to clean up after themselves. Where did they learn (or not learn) this kind of behavior. Maybe cleaning up after people has somehow allowed these people to believe that someone else will do it for them. Maybe they think for some unexplainable reason that it is there right to leave trash with the idea that someone will drive along every year and clean the beach. I have participated in many beach cleanups, sponsored and otherwise, and I don't have to tell you it is a bigger problem than people on the beach leaving their trash. Every year I see trash of all kinds that was not left by people camping on the beach. Untill some kind of control, fines, or punishment is associated with offshore dumping we will continue to have the beach trashed over and over and over. I'm just saying! Sad

While I feel everyone's pain, and applaud piermom for her efforts to "pitch in", there is a larger issue at play that "we" really can not control. The main longshore current on the Gulf Beach face converges around PINS pretty much year round, so ANYTHING that floats in water, and can be carried by any river that dumps into the Gulf of Mexico (and that includes all the major rivers that make it to TX bays, so I don't get slammed for being un-PC Mad

) will eventually end up on the beach. In fact, trash from as far away as Africa can end up on our beaches...... DUDE!!!!

I too tend to take more than I brought, and it's pretty obvious that an awful lot of local don't, but it's also unfair to tag the locals for the trash that came here from points unknown.

A good analogy would be if you lived next to a landfill, and no matter how hard to tried to keep an immaculate yard, you are still going to end up with trash blowing in from the landfill. It sucks to have to accept your fate as such, but you are located next to a landfill........ Crying or Very sad

You leave trash on the beach and your just as much garbage as what you leave! Speaking of trash.... I was driving down Saturday night and between the 5 and 6 I came up on a situation where a bunch of drunk younger guys were pushing and yelling..... Stopped and watched for a second and one guy did his impression of Mike Tyson and hit a kid in the face so hard that he reeled back and the back of his head slammed into the frame of the open car door and he fell into a heap... Knocked him out COLD! I should have gotten it on video but that just goes to show you what kind of hillbilly trash is on that beach!

While it is a good cause the one thing I can't stand about the GLO Adopt a Beach Cleanup in regards to PINS is that you have to record every piece o trash you pick up on a card with a golf pencil. They already know where the trash is coming from so it takes a lot of time from actually removing trash. I can see documenting the trash in other places like North Beach by the Lexington and other places along the coast.
