I was out near Labonte two weekends ago, and this is what I almost stepped on. I had the living crap sacred out of me.

That dude is not just slithering...it is ready to party!!

I have had many encounters cutting wood from a pile, dove hunting, and such where they are just passing through. This one has a motive.

Great pictures.

My girlfriend lives on redbird and Ive been wondering about fishing there when Im bored. I caught a turtle so far, but I've only gone like four times. I did see a guy catch a striped bass on a spook lure. It was an impressive fish.
I plan on trying again till i get something

I laugh whenever I hear someone say that the rattle - actually more of a buzz - is a warning. If you have walked up on a rattler you know that for an instant, you freeze upon hearing that buzz, just to locate it before you move away. That's all they need. They are pit vipers and in that instant, they took a heat reading on your location, just as they do their natural prey. Very effective critters and this is a movement time of year for them. BE CAREFUL!

You are absolutely right, It is like a buzz. I first thought it was a bee, but the noise came from the ground. My body reacted before my eyes processed what it was. Once I realized what it was I was screaming and cussing!!

I've seen 4 out by the water before. One was a little bugger out by the landcut on the king ranch. Walked on top of it pretty much, was hiding in the brown dead grass. Never saw it.

The other was out on the water. Tried to come into the kayak so I had to *stun* it.

Another was on a island I beach up on to rest for lunch.

The bravest one was in the pitch black. I had my drift sock out fishing some lights. Pulled it in to rest the drive and it started going crazy int he drift sock. I threw it back in the water and a 3-4 footer came out and swam away.

Watch out for them!

The sound was similar to dry leaves blowing across concrete? Odd but when I heard my oak leaves slowly moving across the driveway I would get goose bumps and stop. Always brought me to that encounter with the rattler.

I've been watching a family of Blotched Water Snakes hanging out in the branches of the willows along the shoreline in front of my site. They are my indicators of when the water is warm enough to fish harder. So far they are up there everyday getting out of the cold water.

The snakes have been 100% correct so far on the fishing when it sucks, which is everyday so far up here on Lake Mathis.

Great pictures. Obviously, he was pissed. I'm hearing more encounters of rattlers who DON'T rattle. I'm told that where there are feral hogs, the ones that rattle get eaten. Consequently, evolution is producing rattle snakes that don't have a propensity to rattle. Makes them twice as dangerous.

Was hit by one walking to bow hunt on Aransas Wildlife Refuge. Borrowed a friends snake chaps the day before!!!! Never rattled.

Last year those of you familiar with Port Occonor, we have a five foot rattle snake swim by us while wade fishing near Sunday Beach! All the night wade fishing I have done I just wonder what all has swam by!
