I've often used this message board to get great fishing tips. During my fishing off season I was wondering if someone could help me find some nice parks or secluded walking trails? My wife and I enjoy exploring the outdoors. I have a good pair of binoculars. We have been going to the refuge near the University but there seems to be quite a few creepy looking people out there, especially at night.

So if someone would be so nice as to point us in the direction of some good parks, trails, or nature watching spots and also list some of the more creepy places to stay away from: I would be very appreciative.

My number one goal is to always keep my family safe. I really hope some of you take the time to hook us up with some good info. Let's just hope the mosquitos stay away long enough for me to find these new places.

there's a nature trail at the national seashore... quite a few birds to look at throughout the year, and right at dark, you can probably see some deer.

other than that, it's pretty much grass and sand

There is a good bird trail along Sunset Lake near Indian Point by Portland. Also Blucher Park in downtown CC is small but an outstanding place to see spring migratory birds especially during a fall out after a front.

There are some nice areas around Rockport too. Might check with the chamber of commerce there for specifics.

There's a fairly nice but short trail at the back end of the Oso that leads out to a boardwalk on the water. Beware though: leave NOTHING VALUABLE showing in the vehicle! My uncle and aunt took me there a few years back and we weren't gone 15 minutes. Came back to find the right front window smashed and my aunt's purse gone!

On the other hand, that happens all the time in many other places down there it seems...... Embarassed

Right I forgot about that one. Best times to go in April after a big front. As mentioned in a previous post those are fallout days. Birds migrating bail to the land in droves to recover and seek shelter during and after a front.

This is not an attack on you Landlocked but I get tired of the references to crime and Corpus Christi as if we have the plague down here. I would be willing to bet money that if anyone left a purse in the front seat of a car in any City or State throughout our country the likelihood for a smashed window and theft is tremendous. Unfortunately that's our economy and life as we know it now. It is NOT confined to life in Corpus Christi only.

I'm with Wallhanger as I too am getting tired of Corpus area getting bashed. It happens everywhere.
I don't know where the back of oso has a board walk? I thought just as of recently they where starting to build more trails at end of Holly leading into Oso.

Sorry, but I've lived in 6 different states and many cities, Corpus, is by far, the worst for crime. It's not even close. It was quite difficult to get used to locking my doors when I left my house. Sure enough, I've been back in Corpus for almost a year(lived here 3 years before) and had more stuff stolen here than every other place I've lived combined. From my truck. Parked in my drive way. Because people here are used to it doesn't mean it happens every where. Wink BTW, I live in a nice neighborhood now. I lived on Leopard near SPID before. I had no clue......

I've lived here for a long time. Grew up in a bad neighborhood. Had my amp and radio stolen, tackle box stolen when I lived in paradise bay apts , GPS and sunglasses from my truck on ayers.

And in friendswood when I lived there a few years had a gun pulled out on me. I'll live with the petty stuff. Lol.
