|
|
So I was supposed to head out to work today but received a phone call at about 8:45 this morning saying job had been cancelled until tomorrow. Decided to head out to Packery Channel Park. I stopped by the Red Dot Pier and picked up some live shrimp. I arrived at the park about 9:30 and wade fished the area until 1 pm. The Sheepshead were pretty thick today, caught about 3 Sheepshead and was unable to land them, as soon as they would see my boots they would get a sudden burst of energy rip some drag and spit the hook. I was finally able to land 2 nice keeper Sheepshead, I could of limited out for the first time on any fish if I would of only been able to land the first 3. Once I ran out of live shrimp I threw some fishbites along with a couple dead shrimp that were floating in my bucket, picked up a nice sized whiting, released the whiting and started throwing some soft plastics, not a single bite after that. All in all it was a nice morning out at the packery channel park, it was a bit windy, water was chilly but a nice clear green no murky water or weeds to fight. Here are a couple photos of today's catch.

I wouldn't try wading across, not sure how deep it is, I don't usually get to close to the edge but I know you can't wade across. I see people kayak across into the flats all the time. |

Man for real!!! Ha, and I thought I had missed out on a trip to Baffin, was waiting for your report!!! Next time!!! I was actually researching the area last night, came across some website that looked like it hadn't been updated since 2006 it had some cabins for rent, would be pretty neat to rent one and stay out there a few days and fish till you drop. Do you know if those cabins are still available to rent? If I'm not mistaken they were called cast n stay or something like that. |

Or brand!!!! With the armor plated mouth of those puppies, hook sharpness and temper really matters. No time to save money on hooks but then again, I never do!
On the bait side: you can dig/catch all the fiddler crabs needed on the bay side of the fish pass. Doesn't take long either! _________________ Dave

Good eatin'. I use a number 4 short shank Mustad hook for these guys. Hides better in the bait so they mouth it longer. Thanks for sharing. Gotta tear away from Lake Mathis and get down there. Nothing happening here yet.......any day now. _________________ if it ain't broke, fix it 'til it is |
