Got to sneak in on the postfront/prefront, one-day window.

The weekend started by pulling the boat out of storage Sat afternoon. She has been sitting for five long, lonely months. It was hard to leave from the absolute awesomeness of the Bluff on a test ride down to some deeper water by Bird Island running about 15 miles round trip. Even so, it felt good, my friends, to be out even in the brisk conditions. Had a few soft takes on plastics while drifting but no hookups. Water looked good with some floating grass mats. Just about every blind I saw was manned.

No rush on Sunday to make the long run. As expected, the popular spots were packed as we rounded the bend in the pass. Light wind meant I could go anywhere and crisscrossing that unforgivable bay would be no problem if I had to. The fishing started slow and made two moves before we found a good bite. There was nothing holding us back from catching all the dinks we wanted. Plenty of active bait and the faster retrieve really got the undersized trout worked up in a frenzy - I'm kidding. At least I caught the big fish of the trip instead of my buddy.

27 and the Boga said 6.5lb.
