I have been fishing for years and want to make the switch to a baitcast. I need some help and advice. I am going to make the purchase online tonight. So any information will help. For some reason I am stuck on Abu Garcia but not set in stone. Looking to spend 100.00 or less. Thank you. I am going to work now and look forward to the responses.

I love my Chronarchs!
I added baitcasters to the arsenal a few years ago and in my experience they need to be cleaned and oiled more often than spinners.

If you cast right handed, you may want to try a left-hand retreive. They are a little harder to find and take a bit to learn, but they allow you to keep the reel in your right hand when casting and retrieving.

Wants to know what a backlash is and how fun it is to cast a light bait into the wind. Smile j/k

I have and use both but lately I have been using spinners most of the time except for the long rods. I like the left had retrieve idea on the baitcasters because it seems such a wasted effort to always pass the reel from one hand to the other from casting to reeling. Nick Meyer has been doing it that way for a long time.

I'm also a right handed left handed bait cast user.......just makes sense to me.

I just see alot of people using them and wanted to give them a shot. But if they are more hassle than they are worth I'll just stick to a spinning reel. Any suggestions.

The 6501 Garcias have been good choices for me. The 6501 is bulky and heavy, but the price is right, and it works well in a vatiety of situations.

LeWs speed spool. They are under $100 and run smooth! Love mine.

I use garcias for everything....for my artificial casting I pull out my little work horse...red garcia 5000 fast retrieve....I'll be honest though...looks like your looking for something new, and my garcias have lasted so long in working condition I haven't had the chance to look into the newer models....

I know I'm gonna be the odd man out here but I never have been able to stick with a spin reel...i think its mainly cause of the stability and top mount feeling I have grown use too....that may sound like an old stubborn man....but I'm pretty young...or at least I keep telling myself that...blahaha

Why dont you try a pawn shop baitcaster before ya decide?

since I'm a lefty, all normal BC reels work great for me...
also a spinning rod will work w/BC reel, but the spine will be off..
but it will getcha started w/o buying a new rod...
my fav trout set-up is a Castaway 8ft (Academy clearance) w/a tomato Curado (gift). it'll sling out there...
for bay fishing an Abu 5500c3 is a proven reel...keep it as dry as possible.
I have 5 Abu reels from 5500 to 9000.
a typical bass set-up will make a fine bay rig, also.

Get an H20 Express Mettle. The retail is $50, but you can find them new for $30 occasionally. It is a quality and cheap baitcaster, runs pretty smooth. If you like the way it feels, go upgrade to a more expensive shimano...otherwise just stick to your spinning gear.

This is correct.....be warned though.....The reason it's on sale is due to a slight modification under the reel..they smoothed out the bottom on the new models due to huge increase in discomfort. ....aside from that it's been on sale for 4 more now......so it will be a hard catch. If you find it get it!
