I was flounder gigging in the shrimp boat channel (between aransas and port a) on new years day and came across an octopus. First one i have ever seen on the texas coast! I have a pic and video of it if i can figure out how to post it on here.

While down PINS two weeks ago a friend and myself found three dead ones on the beach. They were pretty beating up but you could still tell they were octopus. It was a first for us.

I was with my buddy when he caught one at the port a jetties about 10 years ago. We were fishing for bull reds in his boat with menhaden and brought one in. Once in the boat it started inking everywhere. We released it before it could make any more mess.

They are very common on the Port A jetties some summers, not so much in others, but they are relatively common throughout the area.

Cool find while out floundering.

As a scuba diver, it is not unusual to see several at the Port A jetties. Between turtles and octopus, it can be an interesting experience down there when the water is cloudy.

I came across one in Wilson's cut 12 years ago. freaked my girlfriend out. It washed up on the bank and made its way back in the water.

Have found several over the years, there seem to be at least two types. None I have found are bigger than your hand.

I free dive the jetty but had the same experience. I have a pic of one about 12 feet down on the surf side a few years ago. Was neat to see because I didn't know they were here. Never know what you're gonna see down there. Love it.

I recently had success tipping a bucktail with a few tenticles from one i got during the summer and froze. The meat was nice and tough and stayed on the hook for a while.

I have caught (or should I say netted) several over the years and included them in my saltwater tanks. Cool creatures and very aggressive eaters! Smile
