So do I sell it needing a motor? A refurbished motor with three year 100,000 mile warranty is 3900. What do you think I can get for it needing a motor? _________________ Like Corpusfishing.com on Facebook! |

2 words.
Thunderbolt Motors and Transmissions [OK, the Thunder-bolt part was the original 2 words!!! ]
Houston company, but when I needed a replacement engine for my old 85 GMC S-15, it was WAY worth it [including the shipping] to have them send me one. Beat any local price, hands down.
I got an additional 50,000 miles out of that truck before Mama gave me the ultimatum to "get rid of it".
Just an option. |

| For 3900 u could do a better engine swap unless that is labor included. What happened to the engine? And what were u lookin to sell it for? |

That's with labor. The engine is making a fairly loud pinging sound like a loud lifter noise. My mechanic said rod bearing or something like that. I'll ask again this morning. I have no idea what to ask for it with it needing a motor. I'm just looking fur a ballpark price to start. _________________ Like Corpusfishing.com on Facebook! |

I would surely get a second opinion sir.
I know a mobile mechanic "Lando" 3616874928
Tell him Danny referred you.
Lando is a good fishing buddy of mine that owns a Jeep too _________________ "Do not call my Jeep a Car ever again " |

I would go that way myself unless I was dead on getting rid of the jeep. _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED. |

| Tyler, you can pick up one of those engines for pretty cheap at the salvage yard. Go and take a look at them. And if you have to rebuild it and put it in. And if your wanting a little more zip get a 4.0 and drop it in there. Just a computer change and engine harness change. I'm sure you could do that for less rhe 3900, and that's rebuilding it also. Hell if you buy the beer ill even come and help you do it. Easy easy easy....have a jeep and have been modifing jeeps for many years in colorado and pennsylvania for rock crawling. |

If the body is still good, I would fix it and keep it.
Don't forget to have tranny and u joints checked out, even if its working ok.
Also, service radiator.
I'm no mechanic, but I did visit a 4 Wheel parts store a couple times! _________________ "If we don't leave any, there won't be any."

Tyler,
I replaced the engine in my 4 banger 2000 Wrangler a couple of years ago (ran the coolant dry after catastrophic lower hose failure). The rest of the Jeep was (actually still is) in fantastic shape so it was a no-brainer on my part to keep it and get it back on the road.
Actually, I didn't replace the entire engine - purchased a Marshall re-built long block from Rockauto ($1,300 then, a little over $1,500 now plus $100 for freight, including core return, and a refunded $500 core charge - so about $1,600 out of pocket now) and did the work myself in the evenings over about a month's time. I am lucky to have a shop building/detached garage in addition to my attached one so the project was doable over a longer period.
I am not a mechanic but with a Haynes manual and a subscription to AlldataDIY.com ($28 for 1 year) it was actually quite easy.
I used a cheap cable come-along from the shop rafters to pull/install it and purchased a $50 Harbor Freight engine stand to hold the new block while installing parts from the old engine. Mine is a 5-speed so the tranny is a little smaller but a small floor jack with a nailed together 2x4 cradle like I used should still lift/support the automatic.
The Jeep had about 210k then and I'm at 240k now and it is still going strong. The engine only had a 12k mile/12 month warranty but I've had no problems. I found others online with better warranties (higher cost) but am happy with what I purchased. The delivery was FAST - placed the order on a Sunday evening and it was delivered to my house the following Tuesday!
PM me if you'd like more information - I'll happily answer any questions! _________________ Common sense ISN'T! |
