Every moron on their mother was out there today. Apparently somebody spotted a school of reds near the tip and word started to spread up and down the jetty. Before long there were literally 10 people in the last 30 feet of the rocks, plus two boats working them. For what the school was worth, I only saw 3 fish come up amongst the 10 people in the hour I watched the madness. Apparently the school moved to the south side... I wanted NO part of it. Somebody said it was "fishing at its finest". Not sure what definition of finest he was following, but a fly fisherman came back from the tip saying he didn't even have room to cast, even though they were in range. Felt bad for him.

The surf side was great vis, very flat, tons of finger mullet, but nothing busting them at all. No tarpon rolling. Channel side nice green, some green seagrass from the outgoing tide. Nothing going on fishing wise. Nada. A small jack, dink trout, and a few trash fish in 4 hours. It was elbow to elbow when I left. Lines being crossed left and right. Our slide line went untouched. Cut bait, live mullet, spoons, nada. Only fish I saw caught in the channel was a few guys catch small trout on live mojarras, and one spanish.

Around 4, a power boat came RIGHT up to the rocks to talk to his buddy on the jetty. In the process, I screamed " HEY I GOT LINES OUT!". He was clueless. His prop hooked both of our lines that were out, and they weren't out far. Right next to the rocks. Both snapped off. He said "oh, was that me??". I said "no, it was the other &%#$ boat next to the rocks". We exchanged a few more words before he sped off.

Tons of snorkelers and spear fishermen. Some were courteous, others were swimming into lines. Nobody had shot decent fish at all. Lots of stringers of 8" mangroves with holes in their backs, along with a guy who carted off a stringer of 10" sheepshead. I hope the warden caught him. One guy even shot a horse mullet...Rolling Eyes Question

It was amateur hour at its finest. People - do yourself a favor - avoid packery channel this weekend. South jetty looked to be the same from my point of view.

Hopefully your lines got the last laugh as they ate through the seals in that motor lower unit. What a tool.

What's the story on the crowds, it's a weekday why did it get so bad today?

The story on the crowds is me and a few others posting good reports, coupled with word of the seasonal redfish run. It brings out the hordes. Amateur hour....

This happens every year about this time. It's like a Circus out there! One person catches and the whole herd goes over there. It's funny cuz they all think they are Pro's Laughing All you can do is stand back and enjoy the show! Cool

AMEN! I'm with Stan, although Packery Jetties is a great fishing spot, I don't want to fight the crowd. For me, the bay, or a nice stretch of beach.

So True Stan but that's life. I was on Sopac yesterday at sunset when the reds came through. I was able to catch my share before I got so irritated with the villiage idiots and left. The way I see it is your always gonna have to deal with idiots at some point in your life be it at work or at play and being the smarter one your either gonna have to learn to deal with em or leave the area. I tried and stayed as long as I could yesterday.
