Fished the surf at Mustang from 6:30 to 9a.m. Throwing top waters into non-stop swarms of mullet. Nothing, zip, nadda! Water was a little dirty but not bad.
So loaded up the family and went to pins. Stopped at about the 20. Water looks clean the whole way. Lots of birds on the beach, non working near or far. Caught a few finger mullet and fished the bottom from about 11:30- 4:30. Nothing, zip, nadda! Only thing I got was a field sobriety test from our friendly park rangers at about the ten on our way out. It appeared that I was not wearing my seat belt, and that was the reason for the stop. Must be training a new guy or something. They gave us a work-over. All by the book of course.
I was kinda surprised for a Tuesday afternoon looking all family outing and all. _________________ Taught my dog everything she knows! |

Ya it seems they are always looking for something. I got a field sobriety test the other day as well. Thanks for the report. It's always nice to be out with family. _________________ Great captains, the stuff of legend, are made not by what they have caught, but by what they have given back. |

Field sobriety test !!! Guess I'm not going to PINS anymore. Not that I go fish the beach and get drunk but 3 beers can put you in jail now and ruin your future. South of Bob Hall past the Kleberg County line is still the wilderness I guess, never been messed with there. We'd even drink and bonfire there in highschool with no problems. _________________ But you ain't got no legs Lt. Dan, I know that |

The ranger asked me if I had any alcoholic beverages to drink. My wife will only put 2 beers in the cooler when we leave the house for a beach trip. I said I had 2 which they probably hear a lot . He asked when I drank the last one, which was over two hours before we left our spot, and there you have it. Thing is, I think they are trying to clean-up the riff- raff so to speak, but let this be a warning to all of us who respect the seashore, don't get caught over-indulging , or thinking its ok to not wear that belt, cause even on a Tuesday afternoon with almost no-one on the beach, you could find yourself in spot. Sorry, this is only related to a fishing report. _________________ Taught my dog everything she knows! |

They have gotten bad about that and the they were using wardens to pull people over the other day. There was a ranger following fisherman and stopping when the wardens were pulling people over at the 15 to check fish. Sobriety tests are their new favorite thing no matter how sober or drunk you are acting. Looks like turtle season is over and they are bored. They will find a way to pull you over if they want to do so. |

| It is a pain to be pulled over, but remember to be nice, it pays off better. And really I do feel better having them around. |

THANK YOU! it seems that the Rangers pull over every third vehicle, while on north packery, the CCPD only pulls over people acting crazy or obviously inebriated, maybe 1 out of 200 maybe more....the odds are completely different....
makes you think, what in the smokes is going on down at the Seashore??!!
Gestapo tactics, I swear....the Feds don't want ANYONE on the beach....

| Being Mormon, undergoing a sobriety test would be an interesting proposition. I haven't had anything alcoholic to drink (unless O'Douls counts) since about 1989 in the Navy. Somehow I doubt that I would have much alcohol left in my system. Being 100% disabled with plenty of ortho pain, I do occasionally have opiate painkillers (prescribed for me) in my system though. |

I second the notion, that the feds DO NOT want us on the beach!!
I use to have the most respect in the world for our law enforcement, and I'm sure there are MANY good ones out there--but when you have to conjure up pretenses to pull over law abiding citizens, I think we have gone to far.
I think part of the problem is (some) of these folks are job scared, and or are trying to make a name for themselves.
I do not condone driving under the influence, or not wearing your seat belt, we must obey the law of the land--but harrassment??
I wish we would see the wardens, out on the piers, and jetty's--way more often!!
It is so bad out here in NM--(where we live) that they park under the speed limit sigh--says 45, and it was 55, they are right there to give you a ticket--
but you can't get them to go into the hood---for the crack heads
I guess us with a J O B, are a lot easier pickings
sorry--my rant _________________ <*)))>< I'd rather be fishing-The wife shopping!! ><(((*> |

| I've been off this forum for a year. To no surprise I read a post of abuse by the Rangers. For the best part of them, they are punks. They are not going to pull over anyone threatening, like a car full of gangsters. Having camped and fished on Padre Island sense the early '70s, I know the abuse didn't start until they hired the new Supervisor a few years back. I think his name is Escatto. He was a bean counter for the Navy for 20 years. When he retired he started as a ranger only 2 years before he became supervisor on the Island but because he had 20 years of supervisory experience, he met the criteria and got the job. Immediately the problems started. You would not believe how many folks on this forum said they will never come back. I am one of them. The worst problem is when he started towing trucks and trailers that have parked in the same spots for 30 years and charging them $2500 with a tow service that he was in bed with. He towed a lawyer once. The lawyer said he was going to sue. He probably settled out of court. I would sure like to know what happened. When businesses fail, they like to blame the unions but the trouble always starts at the top. See my middle finger. That's what I think of the Padre Island Rangers and if there are a few decent rangers, know that you don't have to be the way you are and that you work for an supple bum hole. I hope you don't block this post. Your readers that do not know need to read this. And if it happens to you, do not blow if you only had a few beers. If you blow and fail it makes it real hard to get dismissed. If you go to Padre and want to drink, stay put. L |

too many tree huggers in NPS.
those jobs attract the Barney Fife charactors...
seen this behavior thru all types of areas, not just Gov, but more prevent there.
someday the "Detroit" thing may cause them to seek legit employment.
BTW, good to hear from ya L. _________________ the creepy uncle that scares the kids.... |
