| I'm Navy and have been in Corpus for 9 months now and started with wade fishing roughly 6 months ago just as it started to warm up a little. I have hardly had any good days fishing. I first did bottom fishing but mostly ended up feeding my shrimp to perch and hard heads. Started wading and was doing the same thing but then again caught some redfish and trout along with the perch and catfish. Rarely had any keepers. I've had less than 10 keepers of each all year with my biggest not even being over the max size limits. I've seen references to guide services and was wondering if they're worth it. I am not a fan if spending several hundred dollars just because I am limited on where to go and not too familiar with the area. |

| Don't know where you are fishing but I wouldn't fish on bottom wade fishing. Might try live shrimp under a cajun rattler cork or use a 3" gulp shrimp in new penny under a cork instead of shrimp. Pop it a couple times, let it sit for 5-10 seconds and continue. Good luck. |

Sorry I think I meant to say wade fishing or bottom fishing. I rarely bottom fish now unless I'm fishing with someone thats not quite up for wade fishing.
I have tried the Gulp 3" New Penny most of the time without much luck. I think this is just on the days when nothing has been working anyway so I guess I can't blame the lure. I think it was bad timing today. The water was terrible this morning but after driving around this afternoon I've seen some places are a little more cleared up but not as much. |

Don't know if you are looking for places but on base you could wade both sides of Dimmit Point or you can go all the way down on the marina side and wade the boat hole. You can also go out the gate on the A&M side and wade the bridge.
I like using Cajun Thunder or a Midcoast popping cork with a DOA Clear W/gold glitter shrimp or a Chickenboy lures. |

That cove on the east side of the base is an easy wade and you can pick up reds and trout out there. All you need is a cajun thunder popping cork and some live shrimp. Try different styles of hooks until you find out which one suits your hook setting method. Some people like circle hooks because the fish set the hook themselves and all you really need to do is reel. Some prefer J hooks or treble hooks for similar reasons. I prefer 1/0 or 2/0 Kahle hooks when fishing with live bait. Fish hook themselves but I can also set the hook without worrying about it coming out (which is a problem with the circle hooks...).
Wade around a large area. Find bait moving around. If there's nothing happening around you, try moving until you start seeing bait. Throw that cajun thunder cork out and pop it hard a few times let it sit then pop it again. Live shrimp under a cork is the simplest way to catch fish out here. If you want to catch big fish you need to try the jetties. Port A has some monster reds out at the jetties. Get some live mullet, throw it out really far, and wait.
Wade fishing from shore is pretty lame. Most of the fish you will catch will be the fish everyone else has thrown back. Sometimes you'll get lucky, but you have to sift through the hardhead and perch to catch specks and reds while wade fishing. It's just the nature of the beast. |

I fish with some sailors from the base now and then when their schedule permits maybe we can get you out sometime. Where do you work? I work on the base too. I'm also ex Navy. IMS _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED. |

Sorry for the late response but I'm in Multi-engine flight training until January so I have only one good fall season left coming up and hoping to get in a good groove so I can be ready by the time things really pick up. |
