I figured I would try a couple land based spots along Corpus Christi Bay this morning. I took a look at Indian Point, but decided I would pass. My first spot to fish was on the south end of the Portland Causeway. There was one kayak fisherman getting ready to head out when I arrived. Another one was still resting, maybe after fishing the lights last night. I did not catch anything here, but had one solid strike that I missed. I then headed over to Corpus and did not see any fishermen until I reached the south side near Oso Bay. There were several fishing off the bank and plenty of waders in various places. I saw several stringers with 1-3 trout on them, nothing very big, but nice keepers. I gave this spot a quick try and caught one keeper trout on a "Morning Glory" soft plastic. I needed to work on my golf swing and wanted to try out a couple different fairway woods. So off I went to the Gabe Lozano driving range and then Edwin Watts to re-grip the wood I liked best. Finally, off to Port Aransas for some business.

A few pictures from Port Aransas last week when the water was clear, a big drum(looked over 30 lbs.) near Woody's fuel dock and the 31' Chris Craft my dad once owned which was the only boat I landed a tarpon on while running a fishing charter.

Another Tarpon caught on my dad's boat in the early 80's. This one was well over 100 lbs. and the captain on the charter this day was my brother, "Pirate Larry!" Times were different back then about keeping fish and Tarpon was one of the best shark baits around. Proof is what this "Greater Hammerhead" ate one night with Larry landing this brute! |
