First of all Swellinfo sucks...im saying it! Every time I check swell info it is really optimistic forecasts and im always left on the beach watching the waves roll in...magic seaweed is the way to go..at least for the corpus area...

Now...

I was told that 0-1 foot seas would be waiting for us at the beach (swell info) while magic seaweed was saying 2-3.....magic seaweed was correct in its prediction....

I arrived to Glenns kayak all set up and ready to go....david77 and amber were watching the beach and salsa/michelle were loading up anxious to get out there....

We sat on the beach for a while thinking about it as the surf slowly started to die down...although it wasnt by much...

Finally around 9 glenn starts to get the rods out of my truck to give me a little push on the launch hahaha

He sets out through the surf...salsa and michelle follow....i take a deep sigh and reluctantly go as well..

I was the lucky duck to catch the 4th bar waves and a rogue way out but the cuda handled it well!

Winds were up and the water was a bit rough and sloppy...weed was present in some areas and paddling was a little bit of work...

I arrived at the first rig to see Glenn hooked into a king that he eventually loses....almost immediately his other rod goes off and hes fighting a shark...

Prof. doing what Prof. does!

I trolled a little while before i decided it was too much work so i jigged up a sabiki and put blue runners on my live bait leaders freelined...

meanwhile Salsa and Michelle hook up on a solid shark

Michelle handled it like a champ...salsa put the finishing moves on the beast before it pulled us too far from the rig

I head back to the rig and start to work efficiently..

i stayed on the down current side of the rig....the legs of the rig would break down the swells and i could just paddle a few strokes and take a break while i let the freelined blue runner do all the work for me...

it wasnt long before a screaming run started and i pulled in what would be my only kingfish of the trip

I went back to the rig and jigged up more live bait...this time it was leather jacks...my first thought was "Yes! Excellent cobia candy!"

sure enough a few minutes pass and my rod bows over...i pulled in a barely under cobia

David and Amber had their fun with nice sized sharks and big rays...

I kept up with my lazy way of fishing and it produced several sharks for me...

All in all the seas beat me up but it was worth it....

I got home and unleashed points that i was holding onto from the bays in kayak wars....600+ points over the past month combined with points from Prof., Jet, Cuda, and Dog put us in 2nd place! There is a big gap between us and Team A.E. but the second half of the year is our best so lets see what happens Wink

Nice Catch! I think my friend turned around in a 20' Mako early that morning and fished around the jetty's instead. Smile

Congrats, I can barly handle the swells just outside the jetty in my 23' flat bottom there's no way I could make it to a rig and back, has to be perfect conditions..

Great pictures and great catches. You all are braver than I am. I'm too cowardly to catch a fish with big teeth that is swimming just inches from my bare feet hanging out of a little kayak. Embarassed

It's been wrong every time I have looked at it recently! I'm going to try your suggestion of magic seeweed, hopefully it will be better.

Looks like a decent trip in spite of the weather. I can't wait to get back out there. Good luck with the "wars"!

It is about a hour of paddling on a rough day to get out there...45 minutes on a calmer one...

although usually on a calm day you are stopping to cast at smacks and bonita everyonce in a while....

Hahaha i dont blame you i hate sharks up close that always spook me...BUT you can control what hits your bait so just have to deal....

Yeah, I knew the waves would be about 3. The thing that kicked my tail was the damn chop. I lost one spinner shark - got out there late. But good seeing the Plastic Navy out there. I never get sick but for some reason I was getting close on this trip. Probably because of the chop. Waves would hit you from multiple directions. All I had was my iPhone so I wasn't about to take it out and get pix. Didn't want to risk losing my contacts by dropping in the water... Shocked

And we always enjoy the detailed reports. Ditto on the swellinfo AT...last couple of times I used it for a trip to the beach with the wife it was off. Good stuff as always Cool

I'm amazed you guys went out at all. We took the center console out but gave it up after about an hour and visiting two rigs. The wife turned all sorts of interesting colors.

Want back to PA and fished the calm side of the north jetty. Sharks and Jack Crevalle galore. I brought in nine of the latter, just about wore me out.

The only thing for the pot was a single slot red the wife caught on cut mullet. Crying or Very sad

Oh, and Swell Info is worthless. It's not even close most times.

Wave forecasts are pretty much useless, the best way is to look at the wind readings. If it's been blowing anything more than 15 mph steady for several hours it will be choppy. NOAA wave forecasts, add a foot to their nearshore forecast and 2' to their offshore forecast. Even the buoy 42020 isn't very accurate.
