Went out fishing around 9am with Romann and Roadkill Willie. Willie bought some live shrimp and used those at our first stop near some birds working across from the power plant. I tried an electric chicken colored Catch 5 mirrolure and you could only see it for about 5 inches before it disappeared in the brown tide. Romann was using a gulp shrimp. On about the second or third cast I hooked a trout and it came to the surface shook its head and spit the lure. Roy got an undersized trout and then we left for greener pastures. Went over towards the Laguna shores area and got nothing and like it. Finally went across the channel over to the Boat Hole area where Willie hooked a couple of large skipjack on live shrimp. I promptly upped the ante by landing a hardhead on my Catch 5. Romann picked up a whiting on his gulp. After that we saw some boats anchored up near where the end of the base dumps into the bay. They appeared to be croaker fishing. We didn't see anyone hook up as we drifted the shoreline in the presence of a pod of dolphin. Romann caught a sand trout and that was about it for the day as we headed in about 12:45. _________________ Like Corpusfishing.com on Facebook! |

I heard the bite was early! I apologize, and think I will head to the lake tomorrow, cause it sounds pretty tough around here until the water clears a little. Thanks for the report. |

Dag gum, sounds like we fished together. Birds working like crazy yet the fishing was extremely tough. We managed a few dink trout, some huge skipjack, and one hardhead.
Kept the skipjack. Have found that they make great bait, bay, surf, and offshore. |

Fished for around 2 hours before dark. One nice 24 inch red and several undersized reds up on the flats. Mullet have re-appeared. I spoke with several of my neighbors who have been fishing down here for a long time, and they caught no keeper fish yesterday. However, the redfishing should get better thru the summer.
Croaker fishing has been slow just like last year. I didn't have much luck last year fishing with croaker in May and June around here. My old spots don't produce any more. Once the winds lay down and the tides get stronger there should be some decent croaker fishing off the jetties, the edge of the ICW and in the surf. |
