| Go see Nick at breakaway tackle. He has some pre-made stuff that is really nice and tough. Unless its kings, smacks, or other sharp toothed fish, flourocarbon or heavy mono will be ok. |

I make several different leaders, but my favorite would be a hand tied double drop. I make mine with just a swivel and 30 lbs mono, its great for producing numbers of fish especially when you use smaller hooks. However, Breakaway's premade rigs are pretty darn sweet and I'm thinking of buying their kits to make my own rigs with their parts.
Here's how how to make a cheap double drop-

Sometimes I'll rig 1/2 an earplug on each hook line to make it an offical 'pompano' rig. Don't be afraid to be creative with your bait. Fishbites with dead shrimp, squid, fresh 'squished' mullet is great for reds and the like. |

| For basic dead shrimp or cut bait cast from the waist-high surf as far as I can cast to the nearrest gut, I have never had any problems with the double-drop steel leaders that Wal-mart or Academy sell. Weight on the end, and two baits on top. Mono is good too, but when it comes to the ocean, you never know what will swim buy and hit your bait. I've never had one of these leaders come apart or had the swivel forced open by a large fish. Besides, if you play your drag right, you can haul in some really large fish on these leaders. |

Watch out for the store bought rigs. Have had too many snaps crushed by reds and lose the fish. No more snap to hook set ups for me. _________________
