|
|
Do any of the fine folks that frequent this awesome website have any input on how to choose a realtor or real estate agent? Have you any pros or cons on certain agencies? Do have an agent you would suggest or one you would advise to avoid? Any information you folks have would be greatly appreciated...
Thanks and hope the fish are biting for you!!! _________________

If you are a buyer, I strongly suggest a realtor that is very familiar with or lives in the area you are considering. There's nothing worse than buying a house and finding out three months later a new mall is under construction two blocks away from your new home. _________________ E Pluribus Unum |

Talk to several. If you get a bad vibe, run. I tried several and they were all about salesmanship, and really thin on actual knowledge. Several were little more than bored housewives trying out an 'easy' career to keep them busy and into a gossip group.
When i found a guy I actually liked and could talk to, who was trying to help, and would answer questions instead of "Why would you want to know that" attitude, he was worth his weight in gold. He was a big guy too... Too bad he died of cancer about 6 months afterwards.
Good luck. Home buying is a real chore IMO. _________________ Why is it that these days sales people seem to be as honest as I am knowledgeable? |

Thank you, I really appreciate the responses!
I am selling at this point, and need to sell my house which is in the ghetto... unfortunately.
Its a nice house though, much larger rooms than any of the houses i have looked at to rent while I'm selling this house. Guess I should just plan on shooting craps and go for it... _________________

I agree with chossing a realtor that lives and works in the area you are looking to move. If you are looking to move near Portland or Ingleside, My realtor Glenda Whitman, is both realtor and broker, making it a much simpler process. She has worked with me for two years before I found the perfect house I could afford. Don't know too many people who would have stuck with someone that long. Her Remax office is in Prtland, and she can be contacted at 361-643-4400 _________________ Fish till I die and if all goes well fish then as well. |

I used Paula Kay Bishop, with Coldwell Banker. She helped me throughout the whole process of buying. I highly recommend her.

that's not a bad idea at all....
in addition, you might also ask your bank (that you have your loan through) if they have someone they would recommend....

If you're a member of USAA, you can get a referral to a realtor in that area that specializes in relocations, and has passed a rigorous screening.
For getting the referrals, the realtor agrees to pay you part of their commission. It's a pretty good deal, and can save you a significant amount of money in commissions, buying or selling. |

I lived in a condo for sale for the last year, and every single agent near the island came through at one time or another.
The best was Charlie Knoll, with his colleague Terry Cox a close second. They work out of Coldwell Banker on the island.
These guys know their stuff. The rest were mostly bored housewives or failed used-car salesmen. Good luck. |
