So I understand this is a saltwater forum, but I figured some of y'all might have some tips and techniques for freshwater fishing. My sister wants me to take her fishing in choke canyon for her birthday, and it has been years since I have fished freshwater, so I'm asking for a little help. We would be fishing from shore and all species as well. Any helpful spots and or bait/lures would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

At Hwy37 and Hwy72, keep heading south on 37 until you reach the coast! Laughing

Seriously, there are fish in freshwater? WHO KNEW......

Don't do much FW fishing, but I do know that the lakes are down and just look out for the occasional gator. They have BIG ones in Choke.

If all else fails, stop by and talk to the folks manning the entrance gates for Choke Canyon. They ought to be able to help. (but really, just keep on driving. What's an extra hour? Very Happy ).

I agree with you 110%! I myself would rather drive the extra hour to fish, but she wants to fish the lake. I might be able to persuade her into going saltwater fishing, but in the end it's whatever she wants to do. Smile

Choke has always been been one of my favorite bass lakes, but has been slammed with pressure recently and fishing has been horrible. If you have to fish it just pick up some minnows and cast them out on a carolina rig for bass, gaspergou or catfish.

I hear of some good catfishing results lately...find an easily accessible spot, maybe on the side of a point with some structure nearby, and go soak some stink bait, dead shrimp, and so forth.

I grew up on freshwater fishing, and sometimes I miss the lack of constant maintenance on my gear!

Some of my relatives go out there at this time of year and fish with crawfish. They load up on the freshwater drum. They usually fish off some rocks.

Good luck!
