I own two different rc boats, one electric and one nitro. My nitro boat is pretty large and will do 45+mph but still does not have enough power and control to drag out a surf bait. The other issue is stability.
For what it cost me for the nitro boat, I could have bought a nice yak and been much better off. The boat is just a kick-a$$ toy that was interesting for about 2 months...now it sits in my garage. If you're interested, let me know. |

| I have played with an air cannon and think there is hope for that. I have been afraid to actually build a full scale job but I am working up to it. Small air cannon - I have 75 yards on a 8oz weight.... The big boy - Cheetah tank, dry ice, water, DC valve, 3" PVC, frozen bait cylinder, BOOM and watch it fly.......... I must be nuts!!! Oh yea – I am not – NOT - endorsing this for anyone to try….. |

The only RC boat bait launchers I've seen on the inet were on calm water
like lakes. Check out this site though http://www.faroutfishin.com/index.cfm
I like the compressed air idea. |

| Looks like they have the systems all worked out. I guess I was thinking about a larger bait to be thrown out. |

An older friend of mine that use to fish PINS regularly for sharks made what looked like a torpedo out of fiberglass. He used a surfboard as a base for the bottom then formed the fiberglass up to inclose it. Making a torpedo like thing that was wider than it was tall. He cut a hole in the top big enough to put a car battery in it.
He took an old trolling motor and chopped the tube to about 6" above the motor and slide it through the bottom and made a stuffing box so it wouldnt leak. Then he took the electric window mechinism from an old car and tied it all together inside the torpedo so that with a remote control controlling the window operation would turn the trolling motor left and right. Then he used a servo to control the speed control from trolling motor.
He built a compartment in the back, like a hole where he could stuff his bait and used an outrigger clip to hold the leader. When he got out far enough he just pulled hard on the rod and it pulled out from the clip and he turned the torpedo around and brought it back.
He said it worked really well during the day and he put flag on it so he could see it easier and know which way it was going.
Next time im at his place ill see if i can get some pictures and maybe even buy it from him. All the wires fried in it while he was showing us how it worked in a tank by his house. Maybe i can get it cheap and rebuild it. |
