I know this isn't fishing related, but the CC area is now experiencing a great migration of songbirds from the north. I counted at least 12 different species in my back yard on the island this morning. Warblers, orioles, etc.

Yesterday, I caught a feral cat in a live trap. The same cat that was munching on a scarlet tanager the day before. Cats kill millions of songbirds in the U.S. every year.

Anyway, now is the time to enjoy the show if you are in to birding....

Came home yesterday only to find that my wifes cat had killed a Cuckoo bird. Felt really bad so I cut the cats claws down to the quick. If it happens again my wife is going to be really mad at me.

I saw a really cool looking small blue bird on my way home yesterday. Pretty cool. Dunno what kind it was but looked like a fairly easy target for a cat.

indigo bunting perhaps. Even putting collars with bells on them on your pet cats will help.

It's not just a one way street. There is at least one owl here on the Island [if not more] that is attacking and attempting to carry off cats that it finds on people's decks. The coyotes also carry off cats and small dogs.

But you are right to warn people to watch their cats. The birds are so tired from their long flights across the Gulf, that their reaction times are slow. Many are flying into windows and then falling to the ground stunned.

I have an oriole outside my window. I just put out some orange halves on the mesquite tree and he just came back.

Very Happy

not only concern for the songbird population, but corpus is a perennial hotbed for typhus and feral cats and possums host the fleas that spread that crap. the old neighbor lady that feeds all the strays in our neighborhood isn't very happy with me and my box of .22 shorts.

Let's face it, Corpus has a real problem with both feral cats and stray/loose dogs. Like everything else here, it is due to lack of enforcement.

I caught an opossum the other night. I called the city to come pick it up and left it in the alley like I always have done. Well they got to it about 4pm and it had died in the trap. I got a note on my door stating that if it ever happens again that I am going to recieve a citation for cruelty to animals. I love animals and would not do anything to hurt them, but a damn disease carrying opossum. Really, what the hell is wrong with this damn city?
