Alright I've never had an issues like this before. I recently bought a Stratic FJ2500 and put it on a Shimano spincasting rod (6'8") that I bought at Roys. First time I used it it worked flawlessly, casts super far and the reel is super smooth. Yesterday I went fishing with live shrimp, put a lively one on and casted. Usually side cast with my left hand and during the forward motion the line snapped! Confused I took my bait caster and with a topwater I caught my cork and inspected the brand new line. No frays etc... so I tied it back on and made another cast. Again, the line literally cut clean during the cast. Tried again and made a smoother cast- this time it worked. However the next cast the darn cork snapped off and flew way out there beyond the muck and after manny attempts to retrieve it I gave up.

Later I changed out to another 7' spin rod and I could cast flawlessly so its for sure not the reel. Is it possible that the gudes are out of whack? Visually they look about normal to me, and no sharp edges. It seems as if a 'knife' is cutting the line during casting. I'm just curious of how I may be able to fix it or if this is a issue I need to take to Roys (without the recipt...). Manny thanks y'all that might be able to trouble shoot my brand new rod.

Roy's is good about having you in their computers. I use nothing but Shimano Stradics.

I love the Stratic, never bought a nice spincaster until I got this one and it was way worth it. I really do love my Chronarch E7200 on a Castaway Skeleton. I like spincasters for baitfishing and artificals with the baitcaster.

Anyway, I I'll stop by Roys and see what they say. Maybe it was just bad mojo...

My guess is that the line is old or bad. I would re spool with fresh line and give that a try first.

It's happened to me a couple of times. If you look very close at the porcelain inner part of your very last eye. I bet you have a Lil abrasion on it, that is gna be your culprit.

Seen it a bunch of times. That "bend rod - fish on!!!" pose can sometime cut into that last eye (especially if you fish braid) and that could be your problem.

Yes, take a cue tip and run it around the guides and see if any fibers come off. Also if using braid and you have a certain snap in your form you can bust off.

Look at the eye closest to the reel as that is where your abrasion most likely to occur. My 2 cents just so you are clear which eye to look at first.

Thanks for the tips all sounds like the problem. I'll defintly give it a try! Its just that its brand new line(20 pound powerpro), reel and rod. Just odd to happen to a rather new rod.

you didn't mention if your using a shock leader,if you are,is it breaking there ? at the splice ? reason i mention this is because ive seen it a million times
where some one will not tie the uni to uni just right ,they cast, the knot hits a guide and every thing goes flying, just curious.heres an other one,ive seen guys use barrel swivels where they suck it in the first guide or 2 and damage it and the next thing you know, bad rod tip.i fished with a guy a while back, same issue,he was in a hurry, every cast his stuff went flying, come to find out he missed the circle on the guide completely and came out the side of one, thus cutting his line ever time.try braid in one cast though.try the Q tip thing first, would have to be a hell of a crack for it to snap braid one one cast . Idea

I have had Power Pro mysteriously break before. Got very frustrated with it and changed to Suffix and no more problem.
