Well since ya'll are that good why don't you fish the tournaments? Not trying to be mr smarty pants just asking?

A lot of very good, experienced fishermen fish because they enjoy it and have no desire to make it competitive. The day I have to cover my boat in beef jerky stickers in order to enjoy myself, is the day I find another hobby.

Well put

Tournaments, are mostly for people with money, and disposable income at that. This is really true for the offshore crowd. From my years of coaching, I know, that if you think something will give you an edge, and you can by it, it will sell. Thus, exotic boats, high HP, and lots of gadgets. Biggest thing needed is hard work, learn your craft.

As for me, I fish a couple of low dollar tournaments, but Imhave a blast. Don't want to guide either. Fishing is fun and relaxing and I don't want to start making it work. That's just me. As said earlier; " To each his own."

haha I didn't mess with anybody. I asked a question. I know people fish for fun. I enjoy a little competition though as many others do. He doesn't want to that's fine I just asked why if he was confident as we all know he is. There is pretty decent money in it now that's why I asked. You can win what like 10k at the ifa tourney's now? That's pretty good. Especially if you get sponsored and don't have to pay entry fees. No need to get defensive though ha.

In other news...Heard you on the radio this morning when I was heading out to Baffin Tyler. Do you do that often?

Last week we caught a 30 inch drum and some smaller ones 15-19. Other than that I havn't heard of anything good coming out of there. I talked to a few people who fished all night last night on the pier and at site 55 and they had one drum to show for it. I got skunked today trying to find the big trout. The bay back around site and kratz is SALTY. Get out of the water and you're skin has nice white coating.

No offense intended. (I should use more emoticons ). I was lucky enough to fish the TIFT offshore division for several years on a friends boat so, I know it can be fun. Just not my cup of tea anymore. Good fishin'

I do enjoy casting towers though. Especially in South Padre. Nothing better than sight casting from a tower to a redfish. It's my favorite type of fishing. Getting to watch them follow the lure and look at it then finally WHAM. Call it cheating if you want it's fun. What's that old saying? "If you're not cheating you're not trying!" Laughing

The saying is......IT'S NOT HOW YOU WIN IT'S AS LONG AS YOU WIN. Very Happy I see the same thing buts it's 20ft away , or less. Not 60 ft. Towers are great, I fished from them before the view is outstanding from up there. At 56 years climbing up and down that tower, you can have it. Especially in July. I can do it from down here just fine. Wink

I've done it from the deck of the boat. My first sight cast was from the deck. I just enjoy being a little higher. Not necessarily to catch the fish just to see down and get a better view of all the life swimming around. I'm not a great fisherman yet either so maybe I need a little advantage ha. But i'll take the tower if you concede it! Haha speaking of the tower in july we shot into south bay one summer morning with no wind and it was shallower than we thought and we were dead center of the bay couldn't jump out without cutting up the grass. I ended up polling from the center of south bay to the channel in 90 degrees with I want to say around 80% humidity. It was an experience though, ended up drifting from south padre to port isabel with dead shrimp after that because we were so tired. Caught nice trout all the way across without even trying.

My eyes are set on 3 tournaments this year. Won a $240 rod last year at the API, I fish with it every trip!

That was the day. It may have been a higher humidity I don't know but i've worked outside my whole life and zero wind out there was the most humid hottest thing i've ever experienced

Thanks for caring enough to not dig a prop trench to get out of S Bay.
