I just took a job in Beeville and will be moving there April 1st. Im from west texas so I have no idea how hard it will be to find a house or apartment. Does anyone have any suggestions or know of any 1 bdrm houses between Beeville and Corpus to rent? Also, I am an avid bass and crappie fisherman in the panhandle, but dont have the slightest clue how to fish the saltwater. Would anyone be willing to give me some pointers or maybe let me tag along on a trip? Thanks in advance for any help!

Let me guess............you're from Kermit? Very Happy

Welcome to the forum! Don't know why you would leave God's country, but to each his own. I think you'll find saltwater will provide an adequate replacement for your bass and crappie fishing. Very Happy

As a fellow West Texan, my advice for saltwater fishing is just go do it! I will leave it up to the locals to provide the minor details.

Welcome aboard!

Do you have a boat or Kayak, wading gear, or are you planning to fish the piers or banks?

Also, the search tool at the top of the forum is a great way to find stuff posted in the past. There are a LOT of things posted on this board. Very Happy

Welcome to the board. There are plenty of 1BR apartments in town but the rent has steadily been increasing in just the few years I have been here. Used to be able to get a 1BR place in a complex for ~525/month. Now they are all over $600 for the most part. Not sure about houses.

As for fishing, you will love it down here. Some of the guys that have been here forever can give you books worth of wisdom on how/where to fish. I won't claim to know nearly as much, but a good start will be a medium-light setup, probably something similar to what you use for bass but with a good real that can stand up to saltwater. Get yourself a pair of good waders for when the water is a little chilly, although in the summer you will just need the wading boots and some swim trunks. Look on the FAQ forum for the threatd about spots to walk up and wade fish. As for tackle - when you get to town head on down to Roys Bait and Tackle and they can point you in the direction of what kind of artificial lures you will want, or how to set up for live bait. Everyone has there favorites, and I bet some of your bass fishing lures will be well suited for trout and red fish. Have fun.

x2, the only way to learn is to go do it and ask all the specific questions you can think of. I am not nearly as knowledgeable as many people on this board, so I am always trying to ask for new ideas and "tricks" to get fish in Very Happy

Good Luck

Thanks for the advice! I'm thinking for now I will start out bay fishing, trying to find some trout and reds until I figure out what kind of yak I want to invest in. What's some good places to start finding trout and reds? Also, what tackle, setup and bait/lure? About the houses for rent, is there a website that I could look for rentals in Beeville or is it best just to show up and hope I find something? I have already been checking Craigslist regularly. Thanks again for all the help!!

Eagle Ford has absorbed everything down to and including cardboard refridgerater boxes.
if you're single, an RV trailer may be the best bet temporarly.

You could try Realtor.com as they also have rentals such as:

For setups, you get what you pay for. A good all-around setup would be a shimano sahara with an allstar 7' rod, medium or medium light (or anything similar). I've caught anything from little bitty trout to 40"+ Bull Reds on this setup. I use 12 lb mono or 20 lbs braid. As for bait, most beginners seem to like either real live shrimp or scented lures (ie. Berkley Gulp Shrimp). These baits will catch practically anything. A kayak would really improve your mobility, allowing you to hit crash channels, the ICW or the flats. Finally, just talk to the guys at Roys, academy or some of the marinas. I fish out near Marker 37, and those guys are generally very helpful and friendly if you ask for anything.
