Got the go ahead from my wife to get two kayaks, and not just a tandem. We just bought and moved into our first house, so I can't spend a fortune, since I'm already spending a fortune "decorating" the place. Prolly round a grand to spend for both.

I would like to use the yaks in the bay and BTB. I've been looking and reading old posts on here for info, looking at TKF and every other place I could find that talks about yaks. It seems everyone has an opinion, and there's no right or wrong. Haven't seen many good used ones on Craigslist.

What I have read and focused on has led me to the Perception yaks at Academy or Ocean Kayaks from wherever I can find them cheapest would be some of the better choices. I saw an earlier post in which Tdarr said he uses his Perception yak around the jetties, which leads me to believe they should do fine in the surf. Also, they are made by same company as Wilderness?

Would you go with 10 footer or 12? I don't want heavier than about 60 lbs as I will be putting them on top of a Jeep Commander for transport.

Any help/opinions would be appreciated.

For that price....there are 2 that are great....for about 499 each at Academy....can't remember their names at this time....but they are not the Pelican....tho the Pelican did wonders for me...as it was my first one.
Either that or take a chance and keep looking at Craig's List...but they go fast...real fast...especially this time of year.

Keep an eye on TKF classifieds, there are usually some good deals on there. If you want to go BTB then you'll probably like a 12' better than 10' for the extra speed and storage. I've got a Cobra Fish n Dive for sale too if you want to take a look at it. It's closer to 13' though and fairly heavy.

Kill two birds with one stone - decorate with the yaks. They look great hanging in the living room and add a few LEDS and you can also use them for light fixtures.

Go with 12'... the extra stability and tracking will definatly come in handy... keep an eye on TKF and craigslist. By that I mean check every 5 minutes 24 hours a day and you should find a good deal. They go fast!
