|
|
I am looking for a good place to clean fish in the Packery Channel / North Padre area. I live in San Antonio and cleaning fish when I get home really isn't a good option. Crouching over an ice chest and cleaning them at the Packery really isn't any better. And I feel awkward cleaning my fish at a place like Clem's when I didn't catch them there...somehow feels like I am stealing their services.
For the past couple of years, I have been taking a jaunt over to Conn Brown Harbor and cleaning at the table at the boat ramp. SEA paid for the cleaning table and I was a SEA member at the time, so I feel I paid my dues to use it. I like the cleaning tables at Conn Brown; just don't like the 30 minute drive and ferry crossing it takes to get there after staying out fishing all night.
Are there any good public fishing cleaning tables in the Packery area, or is it OK to use like at Clem's?
Thanks for any info. |

| Try the cleaning table at the Nueces Bay boat ramp. It was built with SEA funds also according to the sign I read awhile back. It's alot closer that Conn Brown Harbor, for sure. It is even lighted for night use. |

| The tables behind billings are open. But please support the bait shop if you use their stuff. |

Just an idea, I don't like bending over either. I would go to sams and buy a small portable lyfetime table and take it with me along with a couple of gallons of water. Then I could clean fish at the roadside park if I wanted too. I could also throw the scraps over the fence to feed the coons. _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED. |

If you have a cutting board and a tailgate all you need is to be by the water to toss the scraps in _________________

| Most boat ramps will also have a cleaning station. Not sure about the one at Pakery. But if you bring your own cutting board you have many options. Have done the tailgate thing and it works fine. You might want to use the dock at Packery. Walk down the boat ramp until you are at the right level and get after it. Watch for boats and clean up any mess on the dock. Fish guts and slim can be slippery. |

Take a 2X12 with you and put it on top of the illegally chained garbage cans blocking the walkway at the Packery Channel boat ramp. You can throw the guts right in the cans as you clean your catch. At least that's what they do on Indian Point Pier, throw old shrimp and other bait in the cans instead of throwing it in the water. That one I have not figured out yet! |

This might make a good "project" for one of the local fishing groups/organizations, or a group of out-of-towners who regularly use the local boat ramps to launch. If someone would organize the effort, gather a little money, and then present the project to the county/city for approval, I think they would have a hard time turning down a citizen funded/labor provided, free project to improve amenities at local boat ramps. I would think that building a cleaning station would be relatively easy and inexpensive. Water hookups might be the difficult part.
Alternative would be to pay the two dollar entry fee and use the cleaning stations on Bob Hall pier. By the way, the pier is currently open, no charge, while county looks for new management and restaurant area undergoes renovations. |

| If you have rod holders on the front, or back, of your vehicle, get a piece of pipe to fit snuggly into it, bend it at a 45 degree angle, mount it on a 2x12 and insert it into the rod holder. Can rotate it out of the way when not in use and then pull it out when traveling. Keeps the tailgate from getting all slimed and smelly plus you can clean wherever you want. |

| I know you were looking for a way to not go through Port Aransas but right before you get on the ferry at Port A there is Robert's Point Park and they have a nice cleaning building. |

I am not familiar with Nueces Bay area; drive past it all the time but only place I ever stopped was at Indian Point. Could you tell me where this table is located? Would appreciate knowing for future.

So since I throw everything back, I can't be sure that the 30' table at the entrance of the Packery Parking area is for fish cleaning but! if I wanted to clean fish, that would be a good place to do it.
