For the last two years I have been trying to go on an offshore trip with some old high school classmates. Our first try was scheduled the day after the BP explosion. It was canceled. the second was this summer and I made the trip over and we went out, but never wet a line. It was just to rough to fish. Well last week we finally got to go. We were after Tuna but did not catch any. We did catch some amberjack and some sharks. I though i would post up a few pics.

Getting ready at the dock.

Heading down the river early.

Nice Sunrise

Trying for Tuna, water to dirty and to many sharks.

It was a rough day to fish.

Big Blacktip

Me with an Amberjack, man those things can fight.

Grady with a big Amberjack

Trolling for Wahoo, no Hoo in Hooville.

It was a fun trip and the first time I have run a long way in rough water in a fast boat. Venice is nice but its a long way over there. I drove the first time when the trip got canceled, I flew the last time and had planned on shipping my fish home. LOL, the cost to ship 10 lbs of fish out of the marina was over $200. Next time I'll drive again and take my ice chest.

Been interested in fishing LA for a long time. It looks like your patience was rewarded. Hope you don't mind the question, you don't have to reply, but how much does a trip like that run?

This trip was $1300 plus the Marina ticket, which is fuel and bait. I did not pay for this trip, my buddy did and I think they only charged him $800 plus fuel (another $800), because we could not go out far enough to catch any Yellowfin. But that was their option and it was nice of them to do that. We stayed at a place called Lighthouse lodge and it runs around $125 a night. After that you have your tips, food on and off the boat and the cost to get there. Its a long drive, but flying and renting a car is not that cheap. I did southwest and a small car and it was close to $400 total.

Now if you add in our other two false starts it really go's up in price. The waves there are hard to predict. Both times we had a nearly flat forecast and it was 3-5 with a few other big ones thrown in from time to time. But if its nice, there are big fish to be had.

Venice La is at the end of the world. I was there once delivering some pipe. Good to see you caught some fish anyway. I found out you can ship frozen venison as baggage on your flights. A lot cheaper that way. Very Happy

Thanks, do appreciate full disclosure. At least now I have an idea what to expect.

Have been to Venice Fishing Lodge several times. Cost is $395 a day all inclusive. Great lodge, great guides, always caught fish. Offshore can be arranged too. Caught 5 YFT to 100lbs last may. Last trip was in Oct strictly for spots and dots. The best thang... Owned and ran by TEXANS!
